Poll of the Day > I think I'm gonna turn some of my old GameCube discs into coasters

Right now, all they're doing is collecting dust in my room back home. My GameCube has since been donated to some family members, and I haven't even thought about them in forever, so I think it's time to use them for a greater purpose

So far, I'm thinking:
Super Smash Bros Melee
Pikmin (Doesn't work anymore)
Pokémon Colosseum (and the bonus disc for Jirachi, too)
Pokémon XD
Super Mario Sunshine
Paper Mario TTYD

I used to have a big collection of them, but can't even remember them anymore.

Good idea? It's not like I'll be playing them anytime soon.

I've been using an old one I found as a coaster. It's a Metroid Prime 2 demo disc.

tbh, I never need to worry about coasters since I already have some nice ones from vendors. My favorite are my Clickbooth ones, which are metal and partly feature a fabric lining; the only problem is that they're so nice that they tend to get "misplaced" (ie, stolen) at times. iirc, we never used that vendor as an affiliate, but they had some great promotional swag.

Eh, the bonus disc isn't that valuable

And it's not like people would REALLY want to go trough the trouble of using it to get a Jirachi in Ruby, to transfer it to DPPt, to transfer it to BW to transfer it to XY and then FINALLY to SM. It's a hassle more than anything

Some of those games are worth a pretty decent amount. I thought you were going to list garbage third-party games, not flagship first-party titles. If you don't care about making money on them you could at least donate them to a thrift store or something so that somebody can enjoy them

The whole point of turning them into coasters is because I enjoyed them all so much. If I go and turn my Turok game I only played once, or some other shovelware into a coaster, I'm defeating the whole purpose.

It's supposed to be a cool conversation piece.

EDIT: Hold it! I just checked on Amazon and a copy of Colosseum without the bonus disc is more than $130! That's... impressive.

Whatever floats your boat. I'm just jelly because I wish I had copies of some of those games, and now they're kind of expensive. I hate to see people just throw away or ruin games, but plenty of people don't place the same kind of value on those as I do.

I'm still gonna do it tbh. This just makes it better.

I'll just probably hide them during parties and stuff. I don't want people stealing my expensive drink coasters. They'll go with my fine china.

as long as you find some enclosure that doesnt ruin the discs and you get retrieve them at any time, sure.

Obviously just using the discs themselves as coasters is dumb and will ruin them, but you already said as much in the op.

Mmmmm TTYD was a BIG part of my childhood. And the first jrpg I was really into.
