Back in the day it was easy.

Today...well....you could make it work, epecially if you eat fast food etc.

You can usually find places with all you can eat pizza buffets for $6 at lunch (there is one chain that offers that, and it's all over...so you could plan on going there...finding locations ahead of time. Think it's Pappa johns.

That would be $30 for the whole week, but only one meal a day (but you could eat a ton).

Mc D's etc could get you pretty far with $5 a day as well if your careful.

20 years ago they had deals at places like Weinersnitzle where you could get 3 corn dogs for a dollar. You could get by with just eating that, or other such foods and pretty much spend 1-2$ a day if you wanted.

You can still often get a full loaf of french bread from many supermarkets though for $1-$2, and then get a cheap block of cheese for $1 or so, Hard salami (doesn't need to be refrigerated) etc, and make sandwiches. That could last at least a few days for $5...so you could easily do 25$ for a whole week.

I admit, I just talked myself out of ordering from Pugent sound 2 go, as it would have been $40 for one meal.

I made brocolli beef + jasmine rice at home instead.

I felt pretty good about saving $40 until now....since I would have blown more then TC plans on spending in a week on lunch.

I can eat at home pretty cheaply, but this is for travel.

Sack of potatoes

Some milk

Oats

Rice

Pasta

It's plain, but it should be enough to last a week.

EDIT: Oh, you're going on a trip. Disregard this

Less. Food is really cheap in the US, and more costly in Canada, even accounting for the dollar difference.

25 for nearly a week in the road? Enjoy dollar menus I guess. Or pack sandwiches and have cheap fruit for snacks.

If you wanna post where you are going or if it's a road trip the route you will take, I could try and find you some really good deals along the way.

I love food, and I especially love eating out. I spend alot of time planning where I will eat before any trip.

I generally don't factor in the money much, but instead aim for the best food, most well known places etc (or something I can't get near where I live), but I can use those skills to find cheap deals as well if you like.

Don't even really need the dates, just the route/locations and I can go from there. That being said, $25 is REALLY low, andI woudln't be able to do that much with it. Is there any way to up the amount you would have at least to like 8$ a day ($50 for the whole week). It would make a huge difference. I really wouldn't want to go on a trip without being able to spend $10 a day to be honest, but you can probably get some decent food once a day for $8 a day, and then use 1 days worth of food to get some staples you can eat every day (2 loaves of french bread (buy one at the start, and another on the 4th day), cheese, salami etc....for sandwiches throughout the week, then spend the $8 on the other days for decent meals.

Alternatively if you can't get any more money....I could try and find 1 or 2 nice meals you can have, then just do the sandwich thing for the rest of the trip. It's such a waste at a chance to try new foods and places to eat though!!!

When I was young, I graduated HS early (on my 16th Bday) and my wonderful mother kicked me out. I had a job already, but I saved as much money as I could, only renting a storage locker ($50 a month), and didn't spend much on food.

You can still eat fairly well cheaply, you just can't really take advantage of the new places to eat while your on the trip. Tons of food can travel safely though (same as if you go mountain climbing/white water rafting which I did in my 20's). You could travel with a variety of sandwich stuff for instance, and it them for less then $10 a week easily (especially if you don't mind using packages of mayo from fast food resteraunts etc...same with mustard etc).

If it was me, and I had a hard 25$ limit, I'd probably go with $10 of food for sandwich stuff etc, throughout the week, and then careful choose where I would spend the remaining $15 on either 1 really nice meal, or 2 decent ones along the way.

Actually if it was me, I'd freaking still research the good resteraunts that I really want to try, and call ahead and see if they would let me wash dishes so I could try their food, or get a discount or something, cause yeah, I would not wanna miss out due to not having enough money.

If your good with a musical instrument, perhaps you could play for your supper or something. Gotta be a way, cause good food is such an important part of a trip!

IT may kill me to find these places and not have you be able to eat there actually lol.

Here is a list of cheap places in Medicine hat. I found a few on this list already, but they are all the list so I figured I'd just post this.

Tino's Drive in was the one I was going to suggest first as the prices are pretty cheap. Most of the places had at least $12 for a meal, this place has stuff for $6 or so.

Not really sure if it's worth eating there, but it has good ratings and is cheap. I'd rather eat at the Whiskey Creak club as they have entertainment (I think dancers) and good food, and you can get a Chicken meal or Fried Fish meal for $10 there (and the food looks delicous).

Gonna look at the other towns now.

Oh, ok, then that list has a burrito place, tino's drive in and a cheap pizza place listed already. Don't think they ever did Dinners drive in and dives for Canada sadly or that would be a great resource.

Ah man, I knew this was going to be painful.

How can you go to Jasper and not stop at Evil Daves!!! I mean.....that looks so freaking awesome.

It's evil though due to being really freaking expensive.

Still....those Diabolical tenderloin and Typhoon noodles look delicious.

Really is expensive though...damn them.

I could stretch $25 for a week to buy food with, but it would totally suck... Get a jar of peanut butter, some jam, and a couple loaves of bread. That's only about $10cdn gone. Anything left over spend on value menu burgers for a treat.

Ok, best I could find for deals in Jasper are:

Lou Lou Pizza, cheapest pizza prices and still has good reviews

And

Whistle Stop Pub (burgers etc, good fries, large portions, cheap).

The others are all sandwich shops, and you can do sandwiches cheaper yourself.

On to the next town.

Btw, this is not with any calling of individual places, if you care enough, you could call around and see if anyone would offer you deals, let you wash some dishes or something for a discount etc so you could try their food. I bet many would be so honored that you want to eat there that badly that they would offer you something.

Well, peanut butter you would need to buy, but jelly you can get from any dinner that serves toast etc, and it won't need to be refrigerated after opening (since it's in small packets). You can find somewhere near you with a jar of peanut butter for $2 I'm sure (heck sometimes even less). If you can find somewhere with Tuna on sale for $.50 a can, that would rock as well (just bring packets of mayo and your set). Sandwiches can be super cheap for a week, which could leave you most of your mulla for actually getting decent meals. You might be able to get everything you need for $5 and have $20 left over, but it would be hard. Safeway does have the loaves of French bread for a buck still sometimes, and that can make at least 4 large sandwiches (so 2 for the week). If you got a thing of Peanut butter for $2, and 2 cans of tuna, that could last you the whole week for $5 I guess (although you would probably need another loaf of bread, so $6 min. Still that would leave $19 for decent meals.

Original Joes in Edson has 3$ happy hour every day (Drinks and appetizers) and their Chicken Gyoza's look delicious.

Other then that, everything other then fast food and places like Mama Bears Diner seem expensive. The diner has mixed reviews with some people saying the burgers are pretty bad...and if you have bad burgers.....

I'd check out original Joes though, 3$ happy hour is probably worth it if nothing else.

Might consider choosing your resteraunts/stops ahead of time and calling them, letting them know your on a budget, but will be blogging about your trip and would love to stop by and eat there, take pictures etc. They might be willing to comp your meal, or give you a discount or something.

Best of luck on your trip!!

they did. it's called "You Gotta Eat Here!" and its hosted by some nerd wannabe comedian who legitimately knows nothing about food and his one word to describe said food is consistently "yummy".

Despite that you sometimes see him hit up some decent joints but the random Canadian stops on Triple D are wayyyy better segments.

25 dollars can get you a pack of hot dogs, and rolls, some frozen food raviollis and a jar of pasta sauce, as well as mac and cheese and some rice.

that's only about 13 dollars. leaves you another 12 for other such things. maybe some more pasta and sauce, that's another 1 dollar per pasta (depending on sales maybe cheaper)

long story short, yes you can easily get a weeks worth of food for 25 dollars. just it's mostly cheap pasta and hot dogs and stuff.
