Poll of the Day > Goodbye Bubbles the cat. My best friend, my brother, my pet

Yesterday I had my mom and sisters and anybody who I could think of that interacted with him in a regular basis come by and say goodbye to him. I was always okay, and then once somebody would get there we would go see him and start talking and I would start crying. I've shed more tears in the last couple days than I have in probably about ten years.

Girlfriend and I woke up today and got ready. Nobody said a word. I wrapped him in a blanket and he was so cold and limp, breathing just barely, and with one heavy breath every ten seconds or so. I held him as she drove, telling him I loved him and thanking him for all he had done for me. I felt his tail moving, and then I felt it fall. We got to the vet and came in, and we all knew. He passed in my arms on the way there. The vet checked and no heartbeat.

I am glad he went the way he did. In my arms, in the sunlight. Not by a shot on a cold table. The vet left us alone with him and we cried.

We're getting him cremated and we're getting the ashes back. Today was easier than I thought it was going to be. I still cried but it wasn't sad cries, it was goodbye cries.

Rest in piece Bubbles. I'll always love you.

He's adorable. I love black cats, they're always chill as fuck.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I feel for you, my cat that I adored died similarly a couple of years ago. That whole week was awful. If Bubbles had to go, then doing so in your arms with you talking to it was just about the best way. I wish I could wish the pain away.
