I don't even think of that as a "can", honestly. If I were British, I'd probably refer to it as a tin. Especially since it has more in common with a tin of Spam or sardines in my eyes than it does what I think of as a can. Though if it had fruit in it I'd probably call it a fruit cup, so I'd probably go with that for pudding as well.

Or like what Popeye eats his spinach out of.

(There's also the stereotypical aluminum soda can, but that's kind of a distinct separate thing, too)

Whereas a quarter-can with a pull-top is more of a tin, or a cup, or even a "pak" (at least going by their own marketing):

Though I DO remember getting individual cans of pudding when I was a kid, because it DID come in those back in the 80s. I also remember getting giant industrial-sized cans of pudding as well, and those at least are apparently still a thing:
