Any of you ever play the early VR battletech games, or red planet?

I wasn't into the battletech ones much (expensive) but my friends blew about $5k each playing them. I spent maybe 200$ on red planet (it was $1 a minute).

Also played the VERY early VR game that was at the malls called Terodactyle terror I think. Basically ran around on a map with 8 other players shooting each other and doging terodactyles (you could shoot them if they grabbed you and flew up into the air, but you would fall to your death).

This was literally 20 years ago. Can't believe VR has not progressed hardly at all in that time.

People have been jacking off over Ready Player One (the book) for a while now, but when I eventually bothered checking it out it seemed kind of terrible. And I say that as someone who has huge nostalgia for the 1980s and who SHOULD have been target audience #1 for the setting.

I expect the movie to be hot garbage, but I also expect tons of people to furiously masturbate over it and shriek whenever someone else says they don't like it, because that's the terrible world we live in.

while it wasn't terrible, it wasn't exactly good, either.

it was mediocre to decent. it's an entertaining-ish read if you feel like reading a book in a day or two.

it's pretty short

his second book, armada, was a lot better, though still just as forgettable.
