My first girlfriend. She really didn't like it when I said "you wouldn't buy a car without test driving it would you?"

That was a really dry six months. I kept in touch with her after we broke up and eventually a few years later she realized sex and alcohol weren't too bad.

I grew up Catholic and am still very religious, but I've never been bombarded with talk about premarital sex. My parents never sat me down nor did I go to Sunday School during the ages they would talk about it, so my decision is actually largely... my decision.

It also helps that all the girls I have dated and the majority of my friends are religious.

16 year old kilbotz in sunday school/"youth group" circa 1998, being asked by the youth pastor to sign virginity until marriage pledges. Said anyone that ever wanted to date his daughters would have to sign.
I declined to sign. He freaked the fuck out, told my parents, told the full pastor, I was forced to sit down and do counseling with the pastor, youth pastor and my parents. Was basically shamed by the church.

Sex is an important part of a long term relationship/marriage. It's a lifetime commitment and I would not be willing to make it without knowing for certain we are compatible on all levels.

Primarily because of religious reasons. It was my decision, as in I tried to stray away from indoctrination from those crazy religious nuts that are afraid of sex ed.

second reason: I just always thought that somewhere, a girl would appreciate it. I know that means I would have absolutely no experience, but hey if it makes my wife feel more special then I don't really care.

People are free to do whatever they want in this regard, but I definitely think it's a bad idea.

I'm with this. Whatever floats peoples boats, who am I to judge. But it's a bad idea. Sex is a huge part of marriage and a big reason while people divorce.

I used to want to wait. Then I learned better.

Lost my virginity at 24 to my then fiancé. He was terribad in bed. Good thing we broke it off before the wedding. That would have been awful.

This is what I don't get. There's nothing wrong with sex. It's one of the greatest free activities we can do as humans. Practice makes it all that much better. Going further, sex is usually a large portion of a relationship between 2 people, so being good at it does matter.

I totally agree. I grew up in a super religious home where my family always shamed women who were sexual (not men). I eventually took a good hard look at that and realized sex was no big deal. Good sex in a relationship is so important. There's nothing wrong with expressing ourselves sexually. Having sex is being human.

My only regret now is that I didn't get to experiment more in my 20s. Oh well.

That's disgusting. I'm sorry that happened to you. The decision to adhere to this philosophy or not is yours alone, and I find pledges not to partake premarital sex worthless virtue signaling and an invasion of privacy. They should realize that actions like this on their part will just push people away from their church.

Lol we went through the same before getting married. Like wtf, we're overpopulated enough. I'll stick to my BC, thanks.

But I will say that the people leading the classes were open minded. They pretty much acknowledged that no one waited for sex anymore and that it wasn't a big deal.

I went to a catholic high school, so there were definitely some that were against sex before marriage.
Worse than that, though, were the ones that did not follow that belief but did the one where prophylactics are evil and ended up pregnant.
