I still know damn well who Ed Sheeran is. Even people who don't like pop music have likely seen him in an ad, or heard him while walking through a mall or grocery store.

I admitted it outright, I don't pay attention to the music scene much less current uk singers so that is why I had only heard of him but had no idea what he sings or what he looks like.

I am absolutely out of touch with the music scene specifically.

For the record of 116 people, roughly 50% of them hadn't heard of this guy.

I can't even begin to tell you how many people CE talks about that I honestly have zero clue who they are. Some I look up, some I ask who the person is....and sometimes I don't bother to do either. My life doesn't revolve around music (especially certain genres), movies, or television shows. Sometimes....someone asking "Who is this person?" is just that, them wanting to know who the person is without having to go open a new page and look it up.

But in the 80s, that was the only way to learn about new artists. Listening to the radio and/or watching MTV. They didn't have Spotify or Pandora or those kinds of things that would automatically give you artists similar to other artists you enjoy.

Now that we have that kind of technology, if I don't typically like music similar to a pop artists, they're not going to pop up on my stations.

If I go to a bar or something, there's a good chance I'll hear these songs, but mostly they'll be background noise to me and I won't actually know who the artist is unless someone explicit tells me about it which is a rare occurrence.
