The second answer is...

This Tricky Math Question is so bizarre and difficult that only 1 in 1000 people can actually figure out this test as this asks users to "think outside the box" by working out 2 different but correct answers to a series of equations.

I will say right now that one of the answers is 40!!....

However, a second answer is also acceptable..but can you guess what it is? let's see if people can

The obvious answer is the one everyone has chosen, but if you just go in increasing order of multiples, you could end up with 52 as your answer as well.

But yeah, looks like there are alot of 1 out of 10000 people on this board.

*The poll asks for an answer other than 40.
*The poll gives 40 as a choice.

Where exactly do you get the 1 in 1000 figure, Ducky? Either this board is exceptionally smart, or you just pulled that figure out of thin air.

None of those. It's 19. And 5+2 is not 12 and 6+3 is not 21. Whoever wrote that is an idiot.

I think maybe this?

1 + 4 = 5
2 + 5 = 12
3 + 6 = 21
4 + 7 = 32
5 + 8 = 45
6 + 9 = 60
7 + 10= 77
8 + 11= 96

I dunno. Seems like it should be 19 if we're "going out of the box".

Like the coincidental pattern that produces 40 and 96 is just us finding order in something that was wrong to begin with.

31's my answer. Check this out.

What numbers are missing on the left? 7, 9 and 10.
5+7=12
12+9=21

The only one still not used is 10, so...

21+10=31

Flawless logic, everyone else is wrong.

3 out of 4 of the math examples are wrong.
Math literally is right and wrong. A math riddle is a logical impossibility. What we have here is people making shit up to try and match the proposed fiction.
Shit like this should never be mentioned in the same sentence with the word math as this isn't math. It's scribbles on a bathroom wall.

Only 1 in 1000 people can ignore what's written and imagine new symbols and numbers and form new formulas. That's what this really proves.

Anyways, it's 39.
If you remove the line returns, the formula makes sense again. Or just remove the = sign and string them all together

While I also used the x*Y+x formula, you could also use:

X*(Y+1) to get the same solution.

This question is ridiculous.

2+5=7 not 12
3+6=9 not 21
8+11=19

You can't use numbers to represent other numbers as if they are variables.

nobody said they are variables. they are used as data plugged into some equation. which is some fancy shortcut to connote an idea and doesn't have to be in pedantic format. there are many ways to write a formula, and the same set of graphic representation can mean different formulas in different fields.

add in the running totals:

1+4=5
2+5+5=12
3+6+12=21
8+11+21=40

but you could also say

1+4=5
2+5+5=12
3+6+12=21
4+7+21=32
5+8+32=45
6+9+45=60
7+10+60=77
8+11+77=96

There is already a meaning to plus symbols, equals sign, and numbers. Adding new unknown meaning outside of that and calling it math is only used to deceive people through vagueness.

1=1 in math except in this particular question is nonsense. The whole point of these symbols is to communicate.

And this whole post is a riddle. None of the words have the same definition as in the dictionary since I redefined them all for just this post.
