I'm guessing this was Mori wanting to do a RWBY game (he's said so in the past) but ASW not being confident it would sell well on its own. They probably had this crossover idea bouncing around and decided this would be a good opportunity to use both ideas


And yeah they couldn't reuse Guilty Gear XX sprites because those were made at a significantly lower resolution than HD sprite-based fighters and would look pretty bad in comparison, not unlike Morrigan in MvC2

Yeah I fully expect we get at minimum the full Team RWBY and maybe Jaune Arc if the game needs a jokey-style character and Platinum doesn't make it, it just makes too much sense

They will be able to cover most of the bases people care about most likely even if they only do like 20 characters. We will probably just miss out on the same characters the series left in the dust until Super randomly raised their power levels. I imagine we will get all the major plot villains along with all the main Saiyans and Piccolo then probably some fan favorite extras like Broly and Bardock.

Everyone else is overestimating how complex it would be. These character models and animations already exist in Xrd, and are designed to look as indistinguishable as possible from actual 2D sprites. Every time you take a screenshot of Xrd, you're essentially creating one of these sprites, you just have to cut the character out of the rest of the image. But since ArcSys has the actual 3D models, they can take these screenshots outside of actual gameplay so that there is no "rest of the image" to cut them out from.
