I mean I'm still basically a newbie cause I never really got into golf, but I'm curious if you'll be bad enough to start to have a moment like that

I'm going golfing for my first time on Wednesday as part of a company outing. I think there are going to be like three people present who have actually played golf before.

Best piece of advice I can give you over the internet is to not get upset over anything, no matter how frustrating it can get. Especially since it's for a good cause. If you start to hit shank after shank and then take 5 putts once you get to the green, just laugh at how bad it's getting and head to the next hole.

I guess if you don't remember how clubs work, you want to use a driver off the tee (except on par 3's), woods when you're really far away from the hole, then irons when you get closer. The closer you are, the higher the number of iron you want to use. If you are really close to the green, if you have access to a wedge of some kind (it'll probably say PW, AW, or SW on the end), use that. Don't try to kill the ball, just remember vaguely what a golf swing looks like and take an easy crack at it. Once you get down how to successfully hit a ball, then steadily and slowly put more power into the swing as the round goes on.

Update: I suck, my team dissolved like a hole into the game, and now I'm just taking pictures in the rain for other golfers like I was originally asked to do. Bah.

Had a decent putt, even though I missed (forgot to mention I played putt putt)! Count me out for drives though.

It's honestly unlike any other feeling.

I get to feel that every year though, because I only golf once or twice a year and forget all of the techniques I've learned in between.

It takes 3-4 holes before I convince myself that I don't need to be swinging as hard as possible only to miss the ball completely. Even then, I still only manage to hit it half-decent a very small percentage of the time.

Golf might be the hardest sport to play, at least casually.

There were some team mix-ups since not everyone who registered showed up, so new teams were being made on the spot...then they straightened some of it out after we began, so two of our four players in this scramble went to separate teams. The event coordinator and I were already on the same team, and now it was just us two without our other people who registered. He then decided he'd just bounce around doing guest spots for other teams. I didn't need to be wasting every team's time with me missing the ball, so I just went back to focusing on pictures.

It cost $45 for two swings and a putt, some hot dogs, and probably a sunburn on my free Saturday. I'll try to golf again another day, but for now I'm unnecessarily pessimistic since it's my free Saturday and I was asked to sign up because they were encouraging bad players. Ah well, it's money for a local charity I like so at least that.
