The beauty of the modern world is that you can look it up and learn how to do it in seconds.

What a world we live in.

You could also just get your car manual out which is 10x faster

Exactly, being the case. If you don't know how to change one, you can seriously learn how to do it and complete the job in less than 20 minutes.

I didn't say that myself but my original point still stands.

Shit, download a PDF to you're phone if you're afraid of not having data.

I have AAA so it's a completely unnecessary skill.

I know how to change a tire, so AAA is a completely unnecessary expense. And skills don't become useless when I'm somewhere without cell phone reception.

With zero technique she shows how easy it is.

Aren't the mistakes she made that she unloosened and tightened with the car jacked?

I was taught to first unloosen while the car is on the ground, then jack it up, then complete the removal process, change tire, put on nuts but don't fully tighten, then lower car completely, then finally tighten.

Basically you want the tire on the ground when you put lots of pressure on tightening or loosening, because it's more stable. The car in this video was wobbling all over the place.

You should, especially if you're putting an actual spare on iirc

You should what? >_>

Am I right or wrong here? <_<

No joke, I can change a tire, but if I get a flat on one of Houston's busy highways, and it's on the side facing the road, then fuck that shit. I'm calling road service. There's no way I would risk my life like that.

I feel like this needs to be discussed more. Do you guys agree with this philosophy? It's not about the changing of a tire, it's about an extremely risky situation.

Doesn't seem that risky on many roads and I'd much rather just change it and leave than wait on the side of the road until AAA arrives...

Fun story.
When I was younger, my mom got AAA for me.
Got a flat, called them up, told me it would take 3 hours.
I had changed a tire before so I just did it. Back on the road in no time.

Born in the 80s so I'm a "millennial"
I'm getting really tired of this wimpy shit.

I couldn't change a tire until I had a flat, and had to change it. Not a hard skill to learn.

Of course my spare was flat too, but hey :/

You're supposed to say the car is running so they expedite you. He sucks at changing tires and you suck at using AAA, fair tradeoff.

This is an acorn or tapered style lug\wheel nut. When tightened it makes sure the wheel is centered and not "crooked" as you put it.

Anyone found the study yet.

I found a study that 60% of people in general can not change a flat .

However this also shows that like 23% of millennial can drive stick. It might be a logical jump here , but I don't see how would learn to drive stick yet not learn how to change a tire.

I find this incredibly hard to believe. Changing a tire is beyond easy. There's no that 92% is an accurate number whatsoever. All of my friends even females know how to change a tire. It was taught in a high school class.

This topic is absolute bullshit.

but hey. If it makes you feel better that you know how to change a tire, more to power to you. At this point its moslty bragging rights.

I agree. Changing tires is easy. One of my tires went flat and I still called AAA because I didn't want to get dirty and it was cold.

Fuck, I changed my own tire on the busy interstate, while it was beginning to rain, on my way to my parent's church even though Mazda has a 24-hour roadside assistance. Years before that, I also started to change my own tire on a very cold snow day, on my way to jury duty, on a busy interstate, but some kind stranger stopped and helped me finish the job.

That said, no, I don't really know how to change a tire. Also working a jack is exhausting.

Working a jack isn't exhausting. But the stupid tiny scissor jack does make me nervous. I always feel like it is going to tip forward/backward while working the tire off.
