I already have it on PC and I know the console versions don't have as many features, but I'm kind of tempted to get it TBH. I don't usually like to rebuy games that I already own, but having a portable version (not counting the iOS and Android ones) might be nice

console versions are almost on par with pc version features. I think we're just missing the crafting book.

mods notwithstanding because they are not integral to a game and as such should have no weight on decision making.

I play vanilla anyway so I don't care about the lack of mods, but aren't the world sizes on console pretty limited? I think I heard they might have changed that recently, though.

Yeah, I guess the crafting is the big thing that would bug me. Maybe it just takes some getting used to, but that definitely seems like the type of interface that's made for a mouse.

they are a lot bigger now than they were.

they were one map, now it's something like 32 maps big

and by crafting book, I mean they added a thing that sores recipes, so you just click k the item you want and it makes it from the items. in your inventory. it's actually something they added from the console version, so I'm not sure we're ever going to get it because it's not needed.

Well now I don't know what you're talking about. I think I probably misread helly's post initially. In the console versions, don't you have to select pre-determined crafting recipes or something, instead of just being able to lay down the materials?

you can do both!

the crafting book on PC craft is essentially that stolen from console craft.

adj is talking about mods.

mods are a bonus, they should not be necessary for a game to be enjoyable if it's actually good. this is why elder scrolls (mostly) sucks.

Right, yeah, I'm all backwards. At first I thought you were saying the PC version didn't have the book, then that the console version didn't have the book, but now it's back to the original. I guess it must be a fairly new addition to the PC version because I don't remember it being there last time I played it

I don't really see why they are a big deal. It's a sandbox game that already has essentially limitless possibilities. I imagine that once you get used to using mods you'd have no reason to go back, but I don't think that should be confused for the basic game being worthless

Vanilla minecraft sucks. Once you play a good FtB server, you just can't go back.

Though I'd gladly go back to normal mode after spending a month on a FtB Infinity Evolved expert map... Going through magic in that is frustration incarnate.

It has a touch screen but I doubt it would work for menus since you can't use the touch screen in TV mode. I think a lot of people are still confused and think it works like the Wii U. I always see people talking about how they should bring back Mario Maker and I'm like how TF would that work

I don't mean using it for menus like how the wii u or 3ds does it for certain (meaning the game is still "live" when you touch a menu). In my mind, using touch screen for menus would be the same as the pc version, except you just touch the items instead of clicking on them.

And why wouldn't mario maker work on the switch? You don't need both screens iirc

Really, not using a mouse is the more egregious offense. Trying to doing anything requiring speed, dexterity, or precision w/o a mouse is just...uh.

But yeah, can the consoles even do Hunger Games? Survival Realms? Horde Manors? Skyblocks? etc., like no mods at all?

They can very easily make it so much more entertaining that the base game becomes boring. Making a game that's easy to improve on isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. Minecraft does an excellent job of providing an underlying framework to support that creativity.
