should the age of adulthood be raised?

People are living longer. People aren't really having jobs till out of college and got their degree.
Even some who don't go that path act like kids and live with mommy and daddy.

Should we raise the age of being an adult to 28?

This means you cannot get drafted in the army till 28.
You can't buy porn mags until 28.
Can't drink until 28.
Can't vote until 28.
etc

back in the day when working the field was your life career, your grandpa would have started at 12 years old and became an adult at 15

no, we should make the age of adulthood 13 and stop required education at that point, give them a pair of boot straps and send them on their way.

training

Residency is a stage of graduate medical training. A resident or house officer is a physician (one who holds the degree of M.D., D.O., or MBBS, MBChB, or BMed) who practices medicine usually in a hospital or clinic under the direct or indirect supervision of an attending physician.

Training or not, it's working in your lifelong career for several years and with much greater hours per week. Why should that person be considered a minor? You can't make the argument that they're still in school or that they're not working anymore. And it's still a job that pays you money with which you live off of.

Also, what about lawyers, pharmacists, dentists, PAs, etc. who all get their professional degrees and start working full time well before 28?

All sarcasm aside, the current system clearly isn't working and is just causing more "adults" to drop out of even trying due to social stigma/shame/etc.

Society progressed by making things easier and more accessible to everyone and anyone, did anyone think of the consequences?

I'm also in med school. I've worked a job since high school through college, and had an "adult" job for two years before medical school.

I think your suggestion is ridiculous. To build off of what Zembaphobia mentioned, during residency you are working as a physician responsible for your own patients. Your arbitrary age cut off implies some doctors who are making life and death decisions and operating on people wouldn't even be considered adults.

Or you could do it the other way. Everyone's an adult at 18, except for those who still live in their mom's basement or who abuse the system who won't be considered adults until they make themselves useful to society.

Not sure what you were trying to prove with that, but the rise of life-sustaining drugs and treatment does not mean that people are magically aging slower during the various stages of development. Hell, the opposite might be true, if you believe that growth hormones in food are inducing puberty earlier in some children.

It's funny, in ancient times reaching adulthood was like maybe when you turn 13 because you managed to not die or get some horrible disease

Nowadays thinking of teens as "adults" is LOL-worthy and even people well into their 20s(and even 30s) are basically still children with no purpose or direction

Not 28, but being made to decide so much of your life's potential at basically about 14 (due to high school grade being a big factor for college admission) and then lock it at 20 (when you choose your major, even before that for med students), and make it extremely hard to switch career afterwards when you actually start to figure out what you wanna do...

Life is honestly kind of a shitshow

The problem with that is most 14 year olds are idiots who just wanna play VGs and browse the internet for a living. Schools(especially public high schools) need to be more involved in helping students figure out what careers are a good fit for them rather than just "here's how to write a resume, now get a damn job!"

and that "make it hard to switch careers" thing? That's exactly what's wrong with society today, it's too hard to switch careers already and those jobs are vanishing. hence Trumpy's "omg, we need moar coal!" despite coal being an outdated resource

The problem is trying to assign 1 age to all adult things.

We don't do that and we shouldn't do that.

This. Maybe it's because I'm used to it but 18 seems to be a good place. Most people are at or near the end of physical development (mature body) so certain jobs and establishments are now available. 21 now you have a little more freedom. More jobs, you can purchase alcohol and tobacco (weed in some areas), though my feelings wouldn't be hurt if they were raised due to effects of brain that hasn't matured yet. Not to mention things like insurance and such that is priced due to younger folks being more attracted to faster cars and lack of courtesy on the road.

Plus having an even bigger increase of individuals in the work force may not be a good thing at the moment.

i don't know if I'd go so far as to say should, but I think I'd be ok with it if it happened. not 28, though, that's insane. 21 is probably fine (since it's a known breakpoint). maybe 22 or 23, since that's a common "I'm done with school" number. but at the same time, I wouldn't mind K12 becoming K11, and having college end at 21ish anyway.

I don't think we can put absolutely everything at that age, though. There's no way we can put off driving that long with the way the US is built. maybe have that be the end of the Cinderella License, though.
