This, tbqh. As disappointing as that is, considering Spidey is my favorite hero out of anything comic related.

MJ may as well have been a different character. Not just because of looks, but personality too.

His spider sense was all but nonexistent.

Spiderman was never about the suit being some crazy awesome Stark-given toy.

Little too much humor, a little too little drama.

And what drama there was, pretty bad. Of COURSE Vulture is her dad. Definitely rolled my eyes at that part.

The final battle was pretty anticlimactic. Overall I feel like Peter kind of forgot how to fight at seemingly random times. I mean in Civil War he kicked some serious ass. Here it seems like he's barely ever fought anyone.

And as much as I'm pointing out that I didn't like, I did still enjoy the movie. But I went in expecting way better, which I guess is partially my fault. I'm surprised at how much Marvel of all companies changed from the source.

I'm black. I just don't like race bending when it clearly is being way too forced. And I'm just going off the animated series from the 90s, and the first issue of Spider Man, which I got for free from the LA Times Newspaper years ago. I didn't know Nick Fury even existed until I saw Sam Jack play him in Avengers. And I've read that Nick Fury has been black in the comics as well so I don't particularly care. For a character like Nick Fury though, he doesn't seem that important anyway. They could have made him fucking North Korean for all I care. Ideally all casting would stick closely to the source material, but I'd give leeway for certain characters that aren't that timportant. Peter, Mary Jane, Flash on the other hand, have to be what they were originally supposed to be.

And it isn't even just the fact that they race bent her. They made her annoying as fuck. They made her some bitter, almost antifa-tier idiot, who sees race in everything. They didn't just ruin her appearance, but her personality as well.

You guys don't seem too upset that the Vulture isn't well into his elderly years. Kinda a big change for the character.

They hinted at it in way better ways earlier in the film by demonstrating how Michelle has a crush on Peter. They should have just left her name as Michelle instead of the stupid name reveal thing at the end.

Michelle is basically her own character and has absolutely nothing in common with previous Spiderman love interests. I mean, this one has an obvious crush on Peter and he doesn't seem to notice or care. Usually it is the other way around.

My main gripe is with the name reveal though. Bit of an annoying trope to me. I don't have a problem with these movies creating new characters. I just hate the "hey gotcha" reveals.

Eh I can see the character growing into something that's a combo of 616 and Ultimate MJ. Some elements of Ultimate Gwen Stacey sprinkled in there too.

It's not really that offensive. Besides MJ isn't usually depicted in high school anyway.

I didn't originally like the change to Flash where he was also a nerd... just a rich/popular one? I felt like the relationship benefitted from being the big jock picking on the nerd kid. Especially when Flash becomes a massive Spidey groupie

That said, I think it worked fine here since having a jock at a science school stretches belief despite them having a big field and cheerleaders. And the popped collar. Plus moving him to a nerd gave him more non-forced feeling interactions with Peter. By the end of the movie I was fine with it.

It's always obvious when someone thinks Mary Jane is supposed to be like she is in the 90s series or the original trilogy. Look to Spectacular Spider-Man for a Mary Jane that's taken straight from the comics (and who also wasn't Peter's love interest right away).

So far Zendaya is wrtten closer to the source than Kirsten Dunst, though I wish she was more of a party girl, at least as much as Flash was. Putting all of Peter Parker's circle in the nerd group was kind of lazy tbh.

i dont understand how a guy selling advanced tech to street gangs is somehow above spider-man, below the avengers, but right in the sweet spot for the fbi. this is the one movie that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that agents of shield is non canon because this would clearly be a shield thing but yet the agents of shield are nowhere to be found.

its also clear that the weapons are relatively "new" as spider man sees them for the first time during the atm robbery, yet somehow tombs claims he has been selling them for 8 years without any resistance. what?

and yeah, why are tony and pepper suddenly together? why is he a playboy again? he took a very serious turn in civil war and now he's back to be same old same old playboy tony stark.

I got the impression that the tech was initially used for a lot more than weapons (the flight suit being way more polished than everything else, and the matter displacement field was used all the time), and the weapons dealing was both new and sort of a desperation tactic once Toomes started running low on supplies. I doubt he became rich selling future guns to petty thugs.
