Waiting to see what other people have to say about the game before I buy it though. There are specific things I'm looking for and if they're not in this port, then I just can't justify repurchasing the game when I already own and love it.

Never played XII so I am on the fence, not sure how well it has aged

It's different, which is why I always liked it. As someone who enjoyed and still enjoys turn based rpgs, I took to the gambit system real nicely. It was a fun idea to set up battles before you even played them, while still letting you able to issue commands in real time should the need arise.

I also enjoy the fact that it's open world like 1 to 9, and it's the only new gen final fantasy game that is, since 10 was a linear pathway. It's just nice to finally have a big field to go exploring again.

The story could have been great, starting out with political intrigue, but SE execs ruined matsuno's vision of what could have been the greatest story of the series, serving as the Swansong of the final fantasy series due to this being the last numbered entry in the franchise. As it stands, it's just a great game. But it could have been more.

I don't think you can really call it open world... It has large areas, yeah, but it's not open world. Also, if you loved the original, you shouldn't even be considering waiting for reviews or more information, you should be getting it cause it's $40 ($50 if you don't know what you're doing) and has a TON of gameplay enhancements to make it feel like almost a brand new game.

Ever played 2? Most FF just give you typical roadblocks you cannot pass, Final Fantasy 2 allows you to wander basically everywhere, even if the enemies there can one-shot your party.

Something like that would be a spoiler? Anyway, are you referring to the Famicom FFII or the remake? I assume the core mechanics are the same regardless though.

This can be abused however to get spells like Switch and Holy earlier than your supposed to.

FFXII is great and I prefer it over IX and X. That's right, I said it.
Like every FF, it has it's good and bad points but most of the ppl that I've spoken to that claim they don't like it actually haven't played it and just 'heard that it was crap' or whatever. I've replayed it multiple times over the years and have my PS4 copy ordered and on the way.

I may or may not have played it in a PS2 emulator at 1920x1080 and can confirm it looks just as good as the PS4 HD remake video/screenshots. The upscaled HUD/menu gfx are a little iffy in places but the ingame models and textures all scaled incredibly well so you won't have kb+mouse input but PC play is completely possible. So I hear, anyway...(you never know what will set off the mods) ;)

It's basically the Japanese version but they've made a few tweaks here and there (eg. you can choose 2 jobs now apparently).

I remember Final Fantasy 12. It arrived very late in the PS2's life, and was the most beautiful game I saw on that system. I was stunned by his good it looked when I started playing it. I wasn't a big fan of the gambit system, but I tried to power through for a while. After about 20 hours of playing through the terribly boring story, I gave up. I just couldn't finish that game, especially after looking it up and learning that it would take another 40 hours to finish.

I enjoy long RPGs, but not that one. It did so much right, but the combat and story were awful, and those are perhaps the two most important things in a long RPG.

I was surprised that it was so long and looked as good as it did and had voice acting and was only on one disc

The game is basically a new game compared to the original FF12, just same characters and story. With the new job system.

The re-orchestrated music alone makes it worth it. The skill system was the worse part of the original, and this version fixes that. Also, HD Gabranth.

i remember that , but i was one who thought it was great blend of MMO with single player feel. I just hated the voice acting.

I'm enjoying it way more this time around, but the "easy until using all my Phoenix Downs on the first boss" was a serious annoyance. I hate grinding before bosses, and at 2 hours in (I think), I hope it's not a sign of things to come. It'll be getting returned for Agents of Mayhem if it keeps that up (I have 10 days to get the full amount back).
