A drunk off duty cop killed a college girl in Queens sometime last April. He refused a breathalyzer so was considered "allegedly drunk", but clearly was drunk. He is being charged with vehicular manslaughter and faces a maximum of 7 years in prison. He also has a history of committing smaller crimes while drunk but was acquitted or never charged for those.

7 years... what a fucking joke. Only because he's NYPD.

Saw this a few days ago but wanted to wait until more facts were out.

If there were ever a case where a judge should impose the absolute maximum to send a message, it's this. Start rolling everything up as deep as you can. Manslaughter during commission of a felony(transporting multiple ounces of weed, i.e. intent to traffic)? Boom, felony murder. Get the right judge, that could be life.

"But he's 22! He's so young!"

Good. He'll have a long time to think about the life he stole from someone else.

Sometimes despite raising someone as best as you can, they simply don't turn out the way you hoped they would. At the end of the day they (as far as we know) didn't do anything wrong and probably tried their hardest to put this guy on a better bath. They are losing a loved one and that's tough regardless of the fact of how much of a dumbass that loved one is.

So underexaggerating is the solution? And what are your examples of this? Driving while drunk is undeinably a HUGE problem with a lot of risk, so you'd be hard pressed to misrepresent how devastating it can be.

My good friend lost his sister to a stupid drunk driver... Early 20s cuz a drunk driver drove into the opposing traffic and hit her head on...

Whole situation's fucked up. The tough evil words on the internet sound good but you don't know how it is when this shit really happens. t's not about blind vengeance. I live in an area with lots of rough dudes. My friend had a chance to get this guy while he waits for his trial cuz he found out where the guy works. I think he decided not to.

The guy has his own family and it wasn't as intentional. Vengeance like that isn't what you want in such a sad tragic situation for all parties. Yes they killed a loved one but at the same time you also have to see their perspective. It was manslaughter, not murder. Shit's just fucked up.

What are you talking about? Most of us aren't saying he should be burned alive. Just put into prison where he can't hurt anyone else due to his MULTIPLE cases is stupidity. I don't know how you think your friend killing the person in cold blood is even remotely comparable. No one is saying illegal murder from a third party is anywhere close to a solution. Furthermore, speaking of multiple cases, sounds like you're forgetting this guy has multiple DUI cases and is known for selling drugs. Clearly this isn't any minor mistake, and probably would do it again if he didn't get caught.

Additionally, don't think you're the only one who lost someone to drunk driving. I have a cousin who was just going home from her job at Disney and was killed because of a drunk driver. I'm not going to pay a hitman to kill him, but fuck yes do I think the guy deserves to stay in prison so he won't fuck up the lives of dozens of people because he got shitfaced.

I know at LEAST 10 wreck their shit on xanax and a couple of them are dead

the fact of the matter is that xanax induces WAY more amnesia than alcohol. I don't even think that is debated in the medical field. xanax will be schedule 2 in the next 5 years I'd bet and probably schedule 1 in the next 20 once they figure out everyone on medium-high doses of it is getting early dementia.

Can confirm as a prior xanax user and big time alcoholic.

Xanax WRECKS your ability to form memories while you're on it. Xanax with even a small amount of alcohol added with be a guaranteed black out. Xanax by itself will also cause memory loss and it's like alcohol in a pill form.

Again, stating that a DUI can be a mistake isn't being an apologist for drunk drivers. They still deserve to be punished to the full extent of the law, and that's especially the case if they cause bodily harm or worse, but stating that having two DUIs is much, much worse is a fairly no duh standpoint.

Fuck that

Even if it was my family member. They can rot in jail for doing some fuck up shit like killing someone while drunk driving a SECOND time
I would have let him stay in prison until trial, would just let the court have him.

Only on ce: dui apologists

I can't even comprehend how or why it's even a thing. Sympathizing with people who put the lives of others in danger due to their own stupidity?. Literally wot

Many people on CE overexaggerate the risks of drinking a little before driving.

Agreed. If you took CE's word for it you'd think drunk drivers are worse than ISIS and the Sinaloa cartel.

Though when you think about it drunk driving does kill more Americans than both combined...

There sure are a lot of POS's on this board

Stop acting like operating a 2000 lbs metal hunk at high speeds while drunk is an ok and safe thing to do

It's not and it gets people killed while the shit head drunk driver usually survives

This is why many people choose to drive slowly. It's much safer.
