Should the infant be removed from life support?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2017/07/03/trump-vows-to-help-charlie-gard-the-british-infant-courts-say-should-be-allowed-to-die/

Charlie, who will be 11 months old on July 4, has a rare genetic condition and resulting brain damage that has robbed him of his ability to move his arms and legs, eat or even breathe on his own.

British courts decided that the boy should be allowed to die after a heartbreaking legal battle in which doctors asserted that the child had no chance of survival. His parents argued that there was an experimental treatment in the United States they had not tried.

The case was taken all the way to the European Court of Human Rights, which declined to hear the matter last week, upholding previous court rulings that it was in Charlie's best interest to withdraw life support.

Seriously. I'd be pretty god damn upset if the courts decided to kill my 11 month old without letting me try everything I could.

Most people would agree a pet in this sort of situation should be euthanized. There's no reason for it to be different with a kid.

There's a first

Sidenote, I don't get why the topic title even mentions Trump. Would be a fine topic without bringing him into it.

Probably should have gone with the experimental procedure though. Missed opportunity.

It came out of Trump's mouth but I don't think that makes it wrong.

There's also more to this than we know. What quality of life would the kid have a chance to recover to from the experimental procedure? Maybe the right call was made, maybe it was not. Maybe he would have been a lock-in.

If the parents want to try this experimental treatment, then what's the problem? If you read the article, the parents want to take him to the US to try this treatment and the British government wants to take him off life support against the parents' wishes.

I hate Trump as much as the next guy, but I don't see how this is anything against him. OP's title is extremely misleading.

That's the whole point.

This poses an ethical and moral question.

And what exactly is the definition of ethics and morals? To you? To me? To his parents? To everyone else from the outside looking in?

The only thing people can do is move forward. Bear every consequence that will come along the way. That's it. These things aren't meant to be answered with absolute finality or correctness by any of us; simply because we will not bear that burden of facing its repurcussions. We can discuss this all day and not find an answer..

It's merely food for thought.
