They don't have a special airtight seal or anything, so I don't get why they shouldn't just always be refrigerated

Most products in types of packaging are sterile and fresh at their manufacturing to the store shelves in no wise at risk for spoilage as much as handmade ones. They technically prolong the lifespan of the tortillas, for instance, when no bacteria can grow when the environment is not well to them. They need a sufficient amount of oxygen (most is suctioned out of baggage), moisture (from the air), heat, and contractions (namely something such as an hand touching the interior to plant some within), which all are achieved after opening it.

It is recommended to refrigerate most products even before opening, as you increase its lifespan further to hinder their growth. You don't see that frequently by reason the mode of preservation is costly to run so many refrigerators. Most grains are hardy enough though to last without it, so stores set them out as is, expecting the customer to handle it however he wills.

Flour tortillas are only good for burritos and large quesadillas.

Corn is far superior for all other applications requiring a tortilla.

no. corn is about the same for tortilla chips. it's better for tostadas and hard tacos, but thats it.

flour is better for burritos, quesadillas, soft tacos, enchiladas and taquitos

Cool, I actually got a good explanation that wasn't snarky and came from somebody who actually sounds like they know what they're talking about

not to mention that you can use flour tortillas for a variety of things unrelated to spanish cuisine.

a corn tortilla wrap is gritty and gross. but a flour tortilla wrap is tasty.

also, if you fry a flour tortilla, you get a delicious flaky shell.

if you fry a corn tortilla, you get a normal boring corn hard shell.

This I agree with.

Also that's news to me about refrigerating them.

I've never had a pack of flour tortillas go bad after opening them, and not putting them in the fridge. I have an open pack that's been on a shelf in my kitchen for at least at two months.

It's fine.

Homemade>Store-bought.

Most restaurants in my area make their own tortillas and tortilla chips every morning. You can tell which ones make their own because they are usually a lot busier than the fast-food chains. For a while, we had a Taco Bell that made their own because the manager (bad ass Mexican lady) would get up two hours before her shift just to make tortillas. She eventually had half the kitchen staff making them too, but she was fired because she violated policy for serving "out of code products". The funny part is they had record sales during the time she was there.

Ever since my buddy's mom showed me how she makes them, I haven't bought any from a store (been over 7 years). For some reason, the ones from the store taste like warm paper to me.
