It's fun, but as a full package, it doesn't compare to the previous numbered games.

- Story is absolute nonsense and is a complete mess, with terrible pacing, huge plot holes, and a really stupid premise in general (Wolbachia copulation baybeeee)

- Story is literally unfinished, with MAJOR plot points completely left out of the game due to releasing early (i.e. Liquid stealing the Metal Gear)

- Cut and paste missions (kill target X / rescue hostage Y / blow up tanks ,rinse lather repeat for the whole game)

- You are basically doing these cut and paste missions and barely progressing the story until around Mission 29 iirc, where the Saturday Morning Cartoon villain is finally introduced (with the Jeep mission, one of the most lol-worthy game moments in recent history), and by Mission 30 or 31 he is dead and the story/conflict is pretty much over

- Only two real boss battles in the entire game

- Big empty open world with absolutely nothing to do in it (there is absolutely no reason for the world to be open, unless you want to capture animals)

- Tons of padding to artificially lengthen the game (mandatory side quests & mother base researching to advance the main missions)

- Mother Base is a convoluted mess and is basically a smartphone waiting game (like Clash of Clans) put into MGSV, with half baked features added constantly

- The entire second act of the game is basically just playing missions from the first act of the game on hard mode




And I am sure there are more things that I can't remember off the top of my head ATM because I have to head out and it's been a little while since I played MGSV. But it's just not a good game, sure the gameplay is super tight but it completely falls apart when it comes to design & story, which are literally the two big reasons people play MGS games.

Honestly I think reviewers all rushed to get their Day 1 reviews out and gave the game 10s across the board because it does start off very flashy and cool and it's the end of an iconic franchise. However, note that while it got insanely high scores across the board, basically no reviewers gave MGSV game of the year (this mostly went to Witcher 3 or Fallout 4, both games that scored lower) and now you never hear about MGSV again. Why is that? because people who played the game more than 2 or 3 hours realized how shoddily made and designed the game is, and after the cool first impression, you realize how poorly thrown together the game is.

Seriously post 16 nailed it. The game being garbage isn't a meme. The game is literally incomplete. Not only that but half the game is copy and paste missions with a harder difficulty.

The game is fucking amazing for about 3-5 hours. Then you realize how little there is to really do and it drops off harder than any game I've ever played.
