Yeah, it's horrifying. That video shows what is clearly 2nd degree murder, and yet he gets no guilty verdict on anything. I'm a supporter of our police and I think we need to do more to help out our cops. But that cop murdered a dude.

You literally hear the officer saying "don't pull it out" twice. Once clearly before he pulls his own gun out.

There's something wrong with the system with cops acting like they're in a war zone.

Oh cool victim blaming yay!

He told the cop he had a gun. If you're planning on shooting a cop you don't fucking tell them you have a gun.

He also said he wasn't reaching for the gun.

Guaranteed if Philando was white the cop never would've overreacted and shot him.

I'm glad the asshole cop doesn't have a job anymore. He has no business being a cop because he's a danger to the community if he's that jumpy.

To keep from getting shot while carrying a firearm, basically you have to talk to the officer like he has a mental deficiency.

If he was going to shoot him, he wouldn't have calmly told the officer he had a gun and a permit. There was nothing logical about the officer's decision. No reason was used, just basic human paranoia.

I like how you think a person's name is some sort of proof that a person can't be racist.

If you read the use of force expert's testimony you'll see that Yanez used poor judgment and reacted in a way inconsistent with common police practices.

There's no way for the officer to know that, especially after telling him he had a gun, regardless of how well it was intended.

That's such crap. He didn't have to tell the officer he had a gun, officers don't shoot grandma when she reaches into her quantum purse.

This is totally unacceptable and people need to refuse to accept this as the status quo.

when you're carrying a firearm, legally, it's always best to tell a cop you are.

because, y'know, this could happen.

A person can easily take that as a "warning"(threat). Especially if said person is about to be ticketed or inconvenienced in any way.

No time to react? He had two verbal warnings before the officer finally drew his weapon, excluding the warning to not pull it out. All he had to do was stop moving his arm then explain clearly he was going to remove his wallet.

What did you expect him to do? Brag about shooting a guy? Anybody who kills a person for ANY reason should be visibly upset afterward.

It's astounding that somebody could be so delusional as to describe anything about this as cold-blooded murder. You're so out of touch with reality that you don't even seem to realize that the officer wasn't even being charged with murder. That's a complete mischaracterization of events demonstrative of your absurd bias. By contrast, his charges were MANSLAUGHTER and reckless discharge of a firearm, both of which a jury of his peers found him not guilty.

But I'm also gonna add that if a cop tells me not to reach for my firearm, I'm going to stop moving my hands altogether and more than likely put them in the air. Even if you're just reaching for your wallet, you don't tell a cop you have a firearm and then reach into your pocket... And you especially don't just say "I'm not" and keep reaching after a cop says don't reach for it. I don't believe I would've reacted that way if I was the cop but still. It's really sad that an innocent man lost his life but I think it's kinda ridiculous to call this cold blooded murder. Not to mention we can't even honestly see what he was reaching for. I believe it probably was his wallet but without a camera we can't know 100% for sure

He doesn't just seem upset. He seems like someone that knows they just royally screwed up, which he did.

The fact is that giving cops a free pass to kill every time they feel scared is obviously prone to abuse. There were cops on both sides of the car, the guy calmly informed the officer that he had a firearm, assured the officer that he was not reaching for it, and was surrounded by his family.

That isn't a situation for a trained officer to feel reasonably threatened enough to use lethal force.

There was nothing at all iffy about that and it really just underscores your inability to think even halfway critically about this situation. This would never constitute a murder charge. Manslaughter at the most

I know it's difficult to contain your emotion after seeing a video like that but our justice system isn't meant to be based on raw emotion. That's like the whole reason it's there. It's to keep sentences from being dealt out by an angry senseless mob

Murder is a very specific crime. I would refrain from calling things that they are not. That's how pinching someones ass becomes rape.

What he did was stupid and not befitting of a police officer. He panicked in the line of duty and someone died because of it. However, what he did was determined by the courts not to be 'murder' or manslaughter. He failed in his duty as a police officer and was rightly shit canned for it.

He obviously didn't want to kill the guy. He was just stupid and fucked up and should have never had a badge to begin with. The problem has less to do with the individual and more to do with how poorly selected and trained police officers are.

That said, his family will very likely win a suit in civil court which goes by a very different metric.
