I enjoy this stage's song, but I'm having a hard time thinking about music now. After the Plant Man Incident, I just...can't focus on music. Before Gary Young's Plantman burned itself into my brain, destroying my will to exist on this planet any longer.  The song plays in my mind, on an endless loop. There is no escape. No peace. All thought has been replaced by the incessant droning of this...person. The Plantman knows that the plants will grow. The Plantman knows that the plants will grow. The Plantman knows that the plants will grow. Mega Man 4 was ruined forever when I researched the characters in it. Mega Man 6 was ruined forever when I searched for Plant Man. The sad part is that I used to like the Robot Master. He was bright & colorful & "robot plant" was such an absurd concept that it made me laugh. There is no laughter now. Only the pain that comes from having a wretched noise echoing in your mind for all eternity. I fear I shall never again know peace. The Plantman knows that the plants will grow. The Plantman knows that the plants will grow. The Plantman knows that the plants will grow. *later* Okay, now that I'm back to whatever passes for normal with me, I can get back to this. Plant Man is the second greatest Robot Master in history. "Plant Man's original sprite from Mega Man 6 is interesting in the sense that it breaks the 3 color limitation that sprites usually have, instead having 5 different colors (green, purple, pink, yellow, and the usual skin color) along with black and white." I told you he was colorful, but did you ever notice that he's so colorful he actually breaks the rules about how colorful a sprite can be? Plant Man does not care about your puny, 8-bit systems' weaknesses! "Interestingly enough Plant Man is weak to Gyro Attack in Mega Man: The Power Battle but in Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters Gyro Man is weak to Plant Barrier (Plant Man's weakness having been switched to Atomic Fire), so both bosses switch weaknesses between games." Plant Man isn't just awesome enough that he appears in both Arcade games, he actually switches his weaknesses to confuse you. Oh, you remember him being weak to Gyro Man? HA! The weaknesses have been flipped, so now what are you gonna do? Win anyway because Plant Man isn't the best fighter, okay, I will give you that. And maybe Plant Barrier is just a prettier version of Leaf Shield. And it's weaker, as it strangely does not protect you from the Robots that are weak to it. He doesn't need a good weapon, because he can create his own minions. In Power Fighters 2, he can plant seeds that grow into little sentry turret plants that help him shoot at you. And at his highest difficulty, he can actually create flying robot plants. That's right, he has an infinite army of flying robot plants. Does your favorite Robot Master do anything that awesome? NO. NO THEY DO NOT. Unless your favorite is Pharaoh Man, in which case, yeah Pharaoh Man is definitely the best. ================================================== {FUN FACT: To keep myself surprised throughout this ranking, I only looked up where a select few songs placed in the combined ranking and had no idea Plant Man was up next. My "eventually" comment wasn't to throw people off track; I didn't see it coming either! And I'm not clicking that YouTube link again. The intro scene and music might just be the most defining parts of Mega Man... or maybe I just think that because Retro City Rampage told me it was  That game told me that parodying Mega Man 2's intro was horribly overdone (and then proceeded to do it anyway, because admitting you're creatively bankrupt justifies it?) and I never questioned it. So weak. So useless. His weakness is his own weapon... if he tripped, he'd probably instantly kill himself before Mega Man even showed up. The wiki somehow makes him sound even lamer: "He enjoys playing with Flying Discs in his spare time, but dislikes it when dogs get in his way by catching them. When Dr. Light saw Metal Man for the first time, he remarked that he was "the dentist of the future". Evil robot dentist that is his own worst enemy gets upset by dogs stealing his Frisbees. That may just be the most pathetic villain bio I have ever read. "Also, a glitch in the Game Boy game Mega Man II can leave Metal Man stuck in the walls, making him harmless" ...you poor, sad, defective robot. I'm surprised Dr. Wily didn't quit in disgrace after making you. Stage was alright, I guess. A simple level filled with conveyor belts. I think the only reason anyone cares about Metal Man is how broken his weapon is; it can be aimed in multiple directions, has a ridiculous amount of ammo (that can be glitched into infinite ammo with a minimum amount of effort), and deals too much damage. With a weapon like that, he should be the strongest Robot Master in history! Think about it: An infinite supply of high damaging buzz saws & you fight him on a conveyor belt that he has full control over. Yet, somehow, he's one of the absolute weakest Robot Masters in history. Song is okay, but being associated with this failure knocks it down a bit in my mind. Metal Man did get the absolute best song by Hyadain though:  Metal Man > Quick Man > Bubble Man. I'd rather not think about Crash or Heat Man and Flash Man was just boring, but the first three songs were pretty good. ================================================== {Of course that was written before I somehow managed to get killed by Metal Man on my recent run through MM2. Still disappointed that my abilities have fallen that far. Tried listening to the song again right now and I...don't get the love for it, honestly. If anything, I think I might have it a bit too high. I...guess I might give it credit in that he got the only Hyadain theme I really like (The Quick Man cover is impressive; Bubble Man's is amusing; Metal Man's is actually good)? Like Crash Man, I can't hear the stage theme without Hyadain's lyrics getting stuck in my head, but I actually like this one. I'd say Metal Dance is probably one of The Megas weakest songs. Maybe the second worst song on Get Equipped? Blue Like You, Flash Man's theme, is easily the worst. That one clip alone is justification to list Pharaoh Man as the greatest Robot Master of all time. By the time you factor in his simply awesome design, his army of minions (over one thousand mummiras, not to mention the ability to summon robot zombies in the arcade game), multiple weapons, and levitation... there is no counter argument to be made. Pharaoh Man is the best. ...though if this game is set in Russia then why is there a robot designed to explore pyramids? Where in Russia is Pharaoh Man's stage supposed to be set? Why do they even use a real country like Russia, especially since MM3 was set in such exciting locales as "green planet" and "yellow planet"? Why is the Pharaoh Shot powered by solar energy when Pharaoh Man is designed to explore dark tombs? Well, at least if it had to be one of the non RM themes, my mid tier one went down. Really like that song, but there's just too many good Mega Man themes to put them all as top tier when comparing them, and the other 4 are just better.

Tell them I hate them! /Farnsworth Is it too early to declare this the greatest song in Mega Man history? I know I've only heard the first four games so far, but seriously, nothing has come even remotely close to this and I have no reason to believe the series ever reaches this height again...much less surpasses it. It's rare that instrumental music makes me feel anything; rarer still for a track limited to the NES's capabilities to do so. That this song manages to be so sad that even I feel it, while simultaneously being a perfect theme for Proto Man... This may just be the greatest song in the entire NES library. [I'm half tempted to do a ranking exclusively for non-Mega Man songs from 8-bit or less games in the future. See if anyone can find anything on an 8-bit or earlier system that I like this much. I probably won't ever do such a topic, but the thought did come to mind.] Proto Man is by far the best character in the original series, largely because he's the only one who has a personality or developed story. Light, Wily, Rock, Roll, they're all so thinly developed as to barely count as characters. Blues/Proto Man... there's more to him than every other character combined. Now I just want to go replay Powered Up as him. I need to find where my PSP's at... *a few days after the rest of this was written...* Right, I never finish Proto Man runs on that game because Proto Man is too overpowered to be fun. He's got the shield to block attacks and his Buster always fires fully charged shots, in a game that wasn't designed for charged shots to exist at all. Think he jumps higher than Mega Man too, but I didn't bother testing. ================================================== {And the third personal favorite (the only one of my top 3 that isn't from MM8) finally falls. Still kinda bitter that one dislike kept this from getting a better score (though even with the Likes being doubled, it would still fall just short of getting a perfect 10/10.
