did you not understand when the man said "don't reach for it, don't pull it out"?

when a cop has the drop on you, you don't reach BEHIND your gun to get your wallet. When the cop is saying "don't reach for it".

I'm sorry but this puts this to rest. He died because he acted stupid.

His ID and his gun were about 6 inches away from one another.

The only thing the cop should have done was be like "HANDS ON THE WHEEL" as soon as he mentioned a firearm, but he was trying to be cool about it and not just blow up like I've seen cops do when they figure out weapons are in the car.

Just watched it. That cop is a fucking idiot. The man told him he had a firearm. Sure, the man shouldn't have put his hand towards the gun, but the cop should have been able to keep his composure more. It wasn't like the man was hiding it. If the man had any malicious intent, he never would have told the cop ahead of time that he had a firearm.

Totally with the victim on this one. The victim is at fault in one area, but everything else is totally the cop's fault.

Guessing Philando didn't register that reaching for anything was going to be construed as reaching for the gun. Probably thinking, "I'm not, I'm reaching for my wallet" not realize the danger he was in.

Anyways, let's get some cops that aren't fucking pathetic.

Also, fuck the NRA for remaining silent on this.

Doesn't change the fact that the cop handled this situation terribly. He's the trained one. Not Castillo. (Though these days I guess we have to use the word "trained" loosely) He informed the officer he had a gun. He was asked for his ID. He reached for his ID. Cop should have approached it differently. He's more at fault and anyone trying to say it's mostly Castilllo's fault is insane.

Police in America need reform. The system clearly helps corrupt cops, and corrupt cops get a helping hand from buddies who are too cowardly to call fellow officers out for misconduct.

Bodycams are a good step towards this. You exonerate cops who were justified in shooting somebody or convict them if they weren't. The obvious issue is that crypto-state worshipers like modern conservatives seem to consider innocuous actions worth instant-death, like reaching for your wallet. If we're at a point where we should expect to be shot because cops are trigger happy morons, then shit needs a real change.

His CCW class he took likely told him keep hands on steering wheel, inform officer, and ask him how to proceed.

It is how I was trained, and I've honestly never seen any deviation from it taught anywhere.

Almost every time I'm stopped, the thought runs through my mind and I don't own a gun either. Hell, I've had a gun pulled on me once and have had many stops where the officer's hand is resting on their gun. Never been threatening or discourteous to an officer when being stopped though. All of these were for shit like speeding (gun was pulled on me when I was going 4 over), broken head/taillights, expired registration or whatever.
