Eventually I was like "nah, now I think he's Silver's dad" and accepted that it was a question that'd never be answered. Last year, though, someone mentioned something about Ash Ketchum's dad and I made up a fan theory on the spot. What if Ash's father is Red? Of course, Ash and Gary are based on the rivals from Pokemon Red and Blue. But hear me out. Red is known to be a traveller, and a bit of a loner - he's the original Pokemon Master to a lot of people, he travels across Kanto and defeats the Elite Four. Then he shows up in Pokemon Crystal, training in a cave with his god-tier team, almost completely separated from humanity and willing to challenge any person he sees in Mt. Silver to a battle. We know that he spent a lot of time away from home, to the point that his own mother hadn't seen him in three years. Then, he reappears in Pokemon Black & White 2 as a challenger you can battle. Dude is still around, and now he's in Unova. I think he also made it into Pokemon Sun and Moon as well. So the guy travels a lot, and there's something of a precedent of him leaving things behind. What if he tried to settle down in Kanto once, but eventually the void called him back into the Pokemon world and he left Delilah without knowing that she was pregnant? The reason she's so worried about Ash and wants him to call so often in the first season is because he reminds her of Red, and she doesn't want her boy falling off the grid like his father did to her. --- And outside it's ninety-two degrees, and KROQ is playing Siouxsie and the Banshees.
