20 y/o Michelle Carter Cried out in HORROR after she was found GUILTY of manslaughter in the 2014 death of her boyfriend after she sent him a barrage of text message encouraging him to kill himself!!

She broke down and lost her composure as a judge ruled that SHE was the cause for her 18 y/o boyfriend Conrad Roy III to kill himself.

She now faces up to 20 YEARS in prison..

Michelle was 17 when she sent him dozens of messages urging him to kill himself as Conrad was found dead filling his truck with carbon monoxide in a parking lot in Massachusetts 2014.

Judge Lawrence Moniz called her actions "reckless" as he said Michelle did not give a simple instruction of "getting out of the truck" but rather telling him to go back in

He said Michelle had a DUTY to call someone for help when they are attempting suicide and she did not as it was revealed Conrad has issues. But rather then tell Conrad to save himself, the judge said Michelle instructed him to get back in knowing it was a toxic environment.

Sobs and Cries were breaking out when the guilty verdict was read as the judge said Michelle can remain free on bail until her verdict as shes been banned from using social media.

Conrads parents thanked the police and prosecutors for giving her the harsh sentence as he said it's been a tough time for their family and wanted justice

The sensational trial raised questions of whether words can kill an offered a window into teen depression and suicide through text messages..prosecutors argue that this case should be a precedent for those that encourage others to kill themselves, whether online or in person.

The defense tried to argue that Conrad was suicidal already and that he made his own decision to take his own life as a suicide note was written by him that said "I love you and greatly appreciate ur effort and kindness towards me. I'll forever be in your heart and we will meet again some dday in Heaven. I'm sorry i wasn't the boy you wanted. I can't take the pain. I did this to finally be happy"

Michelle also claimed she was a troubled teenager who suffered depression herself. A psychiatrist even stated that Conrad has suicidal tendencies 2 years before his death as he wrote about Satan wanting him in hell and on a certain date, but the trial focused solely on the texts between them.

Michelle also took advantage of his death by holding a "fundraising" effort on suicide for her own benefit..

Telling somebody to kill themselves shouldn't be a crime unless it's a situation where a parent is telling their child to do so (or something like that). Among peers, it's just not nice. Here, if she knew he was genuinely suicidal, fair enough, I guess... But even so, that punishment does not fit the crime.

Well, if it's a simple "kill yourself" then yeah. However, this girl continually pushed him until he killed himself. That I think should be punishable and I'm glad she was found guilty.

It really does, though. If not for her egging him on, he'd still be alive today. Her actions directly led to his death and violated the law. On the plus side, she's still young so maybe she can be reformed so she's not a total sociopathic monster.

Her texts later became more insistent after Roy appeared to delay his plan.
"I thought you wanted to do this. The time is right and you're ready __ just do it babe," she wrote.
In another text sent the day Roy died, Carter wrote: "You can't think about it. You just have to do it. You said you were gonna do it. Like I don't get why you aren't."

This isn't like in a forum or a game where someone says something stupid and someone else jokingly responds "kill yourself." Based on texts I've seen that go even deeper than what's shown here, she started off telling him to seek help, then goes full sociopath and basically browbeats him into doing it. At 17, she was old enough to know what she was doing to someone she supposedly loved and deserves to do some time.

Seems he wanted to die. Would this not be the first murder by text? What kind of a weak person would be persuaded to kill them selves via text?

It was something like that. She was his girlfriend, not some random peer. She was somebody he trusted, and would listen to. This was also a prolonged, systematic process of manipulation, not just yelling "jump" one time when he was on a bridge.

That's basically the crux of the sentence. It can be hard to say with suicidal people, which is why outcomes like this aren't particularly common, but it does ultimately come down to that. In this particular case, especially where he was chickening out and she encouraged him to stick with it, there's reasonable cause to believe he would have survived without her interference, so she's been found responsible. That's a solid conclusion, I'd say. Let the ***** rot.

I'm all for assisted suicide, but that is far and away different then convincing someone to commit suicide, or to continue to do so if they change their mind etc.

In this case there is clear evidence that she pretty much caused his death at that time. He might have commited suicide later anyway, but it does not look like without her actions, he would have at that time.

I think manslaughter is appropriate (not murder), but she was also 17, and I would consider possibly not trying her as an adult. She should get some punishment for sure, but 10 years seems too harsh (Even if it's 5 with good behavior).

More to the point, it's not like she is a danger to society and is going to do this again. Our prison system sucks and sticking her behind bars even for a year is not going to help her, or society once she gets out. I would rather her be forced to do community service (after say 6 months in jail so she can see what happens if she doesn't do the service), for 2 years or something.

Make her help others to make up for not helping her BF basically.

I agree with the point the judge made about her not contacting authorities about him. That alone makes her guilty in my mind.

It will be interesting how this precedent plays out in trials involving on line bullying and threats and harassment via text.
