I have both and its not. Although neither is very dark to begin with, but colosseum is more badass for sure.

The main protagonist in colosseum is an ex-criminal in his teens (or older), and from the trailer its implied he blew up the hideout with (presumably) people still in it...I think its the only game that shows physical violence where one of the admins punches a guy that wont give him a special item.

Edit: My bad that video doesn't show the hideout explosion (but it shows the admin punching the guy). This one shows Wes blowing up his old hideout.

Colosseum and XD are fine games, there just isn't much of a postgame and they (especially Colosseum) have aged horribly in the graphics department. But they're also as close as you're going to get to traditional Pokemon games on console (to this day which is kind of ridiculous).

I will say they have some of the best music in the series, and the battle animations are amusing (Sableye comes to mind).

Gale of darkness was garbage. Shadow lugia was such a disappointment. There could have been a good story there to follow up colosseum, the closest pokemon got to a kinda cool story and honestly the idea behind the game was cool too. Didn't anyone else always want to snag an opponent's pokemon? Especially if that opponent had a pokemon that your version of the game didn't have. And I kinda liked being forced to work with a preset team, helped me narrow down who to use (though I did stick with espeon and umbreon for a while)

Gameplay wise there were some improvements. But not nearly enough. All told it was a lazy, halfhearted insulting sequel.

To be fair gameplay was much better in terms of post game content. There was the lucky egg quest which was the only way I could get that item. The Orre colosseum was really cool too because it has the best AI of any other pokemon game that I've seen. I didn't know about EV training and I get wrecked in the second round.

Pokemon XD was lame.

Definitely prefer the main titles. I bought Conquest a while back and I've been playing it on and off but it's pretty eh so far. Wasn't a fan of Mystery Dungeon either. I'm glad they're trying, though.

No actually. While simply finishing story mode in xd gale was enough to get lugia, back in colosseum you had to beat the game AND the impossible colosseum to be given a chance to get ho-oh.

It was complete bullshit since as you know, the AI cheats. It's been cheating ever since pokemon stadium (especially 2)

I hated Colosseum because back then I hated doubles.

I liked it much more than Gale of Darkness. Played through the whole thing several times too. Even used the Colosseum itself to level a whole bunch of my Gold/Silver 'mons to 100.

wasn't that bad, had to have a balanced team and not be like ash ketchum. he failed at the ****ing league 5 times.

Mt. Battle was seriously really easy, probably the easiest post game related stuff in the series.

Main game/post game was easy since the highest level was probably lv 60-70

the Mt. Battle mode that required outside pokemon was easy since the 1st 60 floors use underdeveloped pokemon allowing you to collect dozens of continues
