I looked into it more after the conference and read the main site, and I do get what Bethesda is going for with this Creation Club content vs mods on Nexus and such. I think it has more of a place on console than PC, but then if they did that it'd be weird if PC didn't have it lol. But yeah, it sounds different than what happened on Steam a while back.

If they stick to their requirements most modders won't even qualify. It sounds like you need to be the real deal to even be considered. It even says most of the stuff will be made by Bethesda. In reality it is a microtransaction store that they are adding to their games.

If Bethesda puts out some quality stuff for Fallout 4 or Skyrim SE I will be interested. No interest in armor/weapons but if they add new companions and quests? Yeah I'll be all in on that.

Well, yeah... Why would they do it for the classic version? They're not going to do anything that requires the script extender because consoles, and without the script extender the SE is better in every way.

It makes sense. Skyrim SE was a free download for PC gamers (who already owned the classic version), and mod support is only for Xbone and PS4...which only have the SE versions. There's no reason to support the classic version.

I know it makes sense for them to make it for SE. It is just that you can port fairly easily from classic to SE, but not the other way around, on top of things like SKSE and many older mods not being on SE, and they know this.

Sigh. Skyrim SE on Xbox was the closest console gamers got to the real experience of modding. This sounds like a big push from Bethesda. I fear this will be the divisive strike that kills one of the most prolific and dedicated modding base of any game franchise ever. They tried monetizing mods before and it really divided the community. This is dark clouds on the horizon for sure.

If the whole paid mods debacle didn't kill the community back in 2015, then this won't, especially when this isn't the same kind of situation.
