Poll of the Day > Were "torture porn" horror movies just a fad of the early/mid 2000s?

Back then people would claim that horror was dead because movies like Hostel and Saw had no scare factor and were just torture porn.
But, now Curse of Chucky was good, Cult of Chucky will hopefully be good too. We have movies with a title like "Paranormal Activity". I haven't seen it (Plan to soon) but, seems like it'll be less tasteless torture and more paranormal mystery. I think Sam Raimi is still planning to eventually remake The Grudge, which I would be happy to see.
Honestly, Hostel was probably the worst movie I've ever seen. I binged Saw 1-3 last night and I thought they were kind of interesting but terrible at the same time.
It seems like people who lost faith in horror with the rise of torture porn flicks were wrong though. Horror seems to have been revived since then. I've been really out of the loop though.

No, torture porns go back way earlier and still continue. They're less mainstream at the moment, but you still have a new Saw coming out this year.

Yeah but Saw 2 and 3 were more about physical torture, yet I still found the plot interesting. I just wish that they had followed Saw 1s formula.
