I hope the fighting is a little more accessible than the usual Arcsys game. Like if they're loading it down with a bunch of different Bursts and Cancels for every possible combination of two and three buttons, I'm gonna pass hard on this.

DBZ's broad popularity makes this their best shot ever at really cracking into the mainstream so maybe they won't make it super off-putting for players who are not steeped in anime fighter traditions.

I don't doubt it will have some Super material, but Golden Frieza could just be in because of the movie kinda like how Broly is in a lot of games despite being a movie only character. I'm sure we'll get some Super stuff though.

I'm tentatively liking the way the next character comes in via a cutscene to avoid having the gameplay rely on incoming mixups like Marvel. That sometimes made the game a little too swingy, you could be up 3 characters to 1 and then get touched once and suddenly you're the one behind the 8 ball.

Game looks really beautiful. I hope it won't be as hard as other Arksys stuff. I couldn't even do every move with the P4A characters in that mode where it wants you to do them all. Sometimes I'd spend an hour trying one combo and only have raw thumbs to show for it

It LOOKS more accessible in the gameplay video, but that could just be that they're playing it for the first time. Although it also looks like the execution demands may still be high but in the Marvel way rather than in the Arcsys/anime way.

Also, the lightning bolt icon is a resource tied to some kind of burst/X-factor mechanic. In Radix's first vid you see Goku activate it in the neutral and it says "Sparking!", and he starts doing a lot more damage. It lasts for a really long time and I don't see any kind of meter tied to it, but then Vegeta activates his while being hit and he bursts out of the combo. When that happens Goku's sparking ends and Vegeta's starts. I don't know if bursting ends the opponent's sparking or if it just happened to run out at that second. Then Vegeta and Frieza are sparking and it lasts for a while but eventually goes away seemingly on its own (the move that Frieza is doing when it ends is one he did before without ending it so I don't think that had anything to do with it). Buu hit Frieza once without ending his sparking so it's not from being hit either. If it's just duration-based they should really add a timer to the HUD so it's clear how much is left.

Rewatching, I noticed that there's also health recovery in addition to increased damage. This is straight up X-factor.

Unclear if it scales depending on how many characters you have left, I'll have to examine the footage more closely.

Just some guesses. We don't really need Raditz, but he could still show up anyways. Tons of possibilities. I'd like Tien to be playable, but he isn't really needed either.

I do hope this starts out with more than that. With 3v3 gameplay it really should.

You can also see a DHC in this video at around 2:25 when Goku switches with Gohan. This is looking like straight up Marvel 3 gameplay and I for one could not be more excited.

BTW I don't really know DBZ but I see everybody teleporting all over the place in these videos. Looks like it costs 1 meter. Is that a common power in the anime?

Yeah, they teleport pretty frequently when fighting. It's not really considered a power aside from one specific case being a special move of sorts.

Kind of. I think technically for most characters it's just "moving so fast you can't see it" and only a couple characters have actual teleportation

I'm incredibly impressed with the visuals. There have been a ton of DBZ games, but this one probably captures the look and feel more than any of the others. Those battle intros are amazing. Disappointed nobody has somehow picked Vegeta first so I can see him in all his glory :/

Legacy of Goku series was made only for the west so it's kind of a special case

(LoG2 did well enough that they did end up making a JP version later on. I wonder if they changed the music for that one?)
