No.

Just shampoo.

However, my hair is literally 1/8 inch long all around so it's not worth it.

Why did conditioner make a difference? Shampoo is alkaline and conditioner is acidic. It keeps your hair at optimal pH. 2 in 1 stuff does not work the same and does not properly condition.

That acid is needed to make your cuticle lay flat. Without it you're more prone to dry, frizzy, dull, knotted, and broken hair. It's not as noticeable with short hair but very noticeable with long hair.

You'll still have much nicer hair if you condition (or rinse with an appropriate acidic liquid after washing)

Interesting. This is probably why my hair was fuzzy and knotted when I had it long. I'll keep this in mind.

I shampoo every few days and condition every day. I also use a leave-in conditioner when styling. I have long, thick, naturally wavy hair.

A few tips:
- If the conditioner is making your hair greasy, you should look for a different conditioner. A lighter one with no cone.
- 2 in 1s are a sham, as others have noted.
- Also, don't nuke your hair with shampoo or it will get really dry.
- Look for the shampoo/conditioner for your hair type.

The ironic thing is that you probably make it more greasy by only using schampoo because it dries out your hair and scalp, which in turn makes your body want to produce more natural oils.

Yeah and it's important to not condition the scalp either. That will make everything feel greasier.

Sephiroth C Ryu posted...

Shampoo should be a few times a week (2 or 3).it really depends on your hair type. Most people would benefit from less shampoo. When you use it daily you train your scalp to oil overproduction as all of the natural protective oils are stripped away.

If you feel really greasy between washes dry shampoo is ok and less bothersome to hair.

Shampoo use really depends on how active you are. If you work a desk job and never sweat then shampooing once a week or every two weeks is fine. If you sweat a lot then you got to clean that shit or it gets dirty as hell.

Using conditioner and only it is like adding oil to oil.

i usually use head and shoulders for men which has 2 in 1. does me just fine, my hair never gets long enough for it to matter anyway, it actually gets a lot thicker before it gets longer (i've gone to the barbers and just got him to thin it out rather than cut any length off it before)

You can wash your hair and scalp without shampoo. For everyone using 2 in 1 you should at least use a clarifying shampoo every week or two to get rid of the residue. You will definitely notice that.

Everyone's hair texture is different but shampooing too often will strip out natural oils your hair needs to stay moisturized. Conditioner is a must, imo. For folks here with wavy, curly or coily hair, you should look into the "Curly Girl" method (poorly named in hindsight, lol

My current routine:
Start of week: Hot oil treatment (almond, caster, safflower oils); clarifying shampoo; deep conditioner for up to 30 minutes; rinse out and apply conditioner; rinse out and apply leave-in conditioner; apply grapeseed oil; apply styling cream.
During the week: I wet my hair every morning because it's easier to style. I use the LOC method every day. I co-wash with a cleansing conditioner when i think it's necessary (every 2-3 days).

I've known for a while now that you're not supposed to shampoo every day, but I was brought up doing that so it's kind of just a habit now. Sometimes I won't put anything in my hair, but then I think it looks gross, and sometimes I'll condition it without shampooing, but I usually hate the way it feels. I always say I'll take better care of my hair but just fall back into the habit of daily shampooing.
