Bioware holds a place in my heart for the good times (KOTOR, Jade Empire, etc)

so its kinda saddening with some of the stuff now

My favorite fare from them is still Mass Effect Trilogy and Dragon Age: Origins, with Inquisition not far behind. So on a qualitative front, I'm still fairly golden.

Having gone back to earlier fare, though, I will say that KOTOR is really good.

I'm not a Bioware diehard but I've always been consistently surprised at how vitriolic people can towards them. To me they're a game company that's made some good games, and some eh games, and...that's it. It's not like they're doing shady business practices or anything, it's just sometimes their games don't live up to expectations. People just love to hate them so much! Its frankly weird.

Granted, and this may just be my perspective, but WRPG fanbases have always seemed volatile to me though. Bioware gets the worst of it because they have the most missteps but people still gave Bethesda hell for Fallout 4 not being the automatic GotY. CD Project Red is currently on a pedestal thanks to Witcher 3, but if their next game is even slightly disapointing than that set of dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Also it's DOUBLY weird to me because when usually when a company fucks up a game in their series, the game after it tends to be good due to them making extra-sure not to fuck it up again. Examples:

Devil May Cry 2 -> Devil May Cry 3
Ace Attorney 4 -> Ace Attorney 5
Assassin's Creed 3 -> Assassin's Creed 4
Tales of Zestiria -> Tales of Berseria
Dragon Age 2 -> Dragon Age Inquisition (and Bioware has already stated they're going to improve on THAT game's mistakes as well)


I mean if you're a crazy WRPG fan then the last 5 or so Bioware games have probably been total shit to you, but hey.

Yeah, because open-world was such a success for Inquisition and Andromeda huh? BioWare used to be a company that at least listened to feedback and altered their games accordingly, but they just can't take a hint.

I think that had more to do with Fallout 4 just being very similar to Fallout 3, and all the new stuff it added not being a ton of fun.

I haven't really played a Bioware game in a while. I tried Dragon Age: Origins, and I really didn't take to it. Prior to that it was Mass Effect 1, which I got a ways into but never finished. That's weird because I did enjoy KotOR and Jade Empire, and the base around each game is still pretty much the same.

I still need to get around to playing DAI, but I don't want to download EA's steam knockoff.

It runs poorly, it looks substantially worse, and -- this is the big one -- the final two DLCs aren't available. Including Trespasser, which picks up after the conclusion of the game, sets up 4, and is commonly regarded as the best part of the story.

origin is a totally fine app, and ea access, which includes dragon age inquisition, can be downloaded free for a week

Origin's okay. It's never really adversely affected my play experience other than it occasionally bombarding me with shit it wants me to sign up for. Unlike Uplay which is fucking terrible.

Direct inarguable confirmation that Anthem is not set in the Attack on Titan universe, straight from BioWare's Director of Marketing.

I'll have to be careful not to say too much and get in trouble, but: the game is actually not very similar to Attack on Titan or Titanfall, imho. There's so much more to the IP than what's in the teaser or even what we are revealing with this E3 beat.

And, again, it's not exclusive.
