Only beer hipsters like double IPA's, because they're so heavy in malt, hops, and alcohol, that they're literally disgusting to anyone who doesn't drink quality beer on a regular basis.

But yea, German beer is best in the world, because they're flavorful and easily drinkable. They capture the essential flavors of beer without going overboard.

Considering most of the best beers are from those 3 countries and are all widely available I would be surprised if you couldn't find them. Most big American beers are complete trash.

I only said I couldn't find Czech, though I haven't exactly looked for it.

What's a good German beer? I'm sure I've had a few, but I'm drawing a blank on which ones and all I can think of is Paulaner. Is that a good one? I feel like it's everywhere, so it makes me suspicious

I dont like the taste of beer at all. ive tried cheap shit, good shit, shit made by monks. Im not a fan of beer, but if im out with people i can throw back a few no problem just fine.

I dont like IPAs because...i feel like the flavors can get too weird and complex. But its okay, beer just isnt for me. Though the higher alc % is appreciated.

It helps if you go to a big liquor store, like Total Wine and More, since they'll have knowledgeable staff.

But seriously, I got a Blood Orange Tandem Pedal from Denver Beer Co. I've been going more for the citrus fruit IPAs over the super hoppy ones lately. I'm not really a big fan of fruit beers, but citrus fruits are okay, especially in an IPA, as it complements the flavor of hops. But this one kind of just tastes too much like alcohol or something, I don't know, I'm not great at describing beers in detail. It is 10% so that's somewhat to be expected, although I did have a deceptive 12% beer a couple weeks ago so it made me interested to try this.

I didn't recommend this beer since I've never had it. To me, 7-8% is the ideal ABV range for IPAs. Past that, they are either to sweet and syrupy or too boozy.

I have never been a big fan of IPAs. There are some that I like a lot, but others that are just kind of hard to drink. I am more of a porter or stout fan, but like a lot of different styles. Kolsch is a good beer style I recommend giving a try if you haven't had one before. If you can find Franconia Kolsch where you live, give it a try.

I second trying a Kolsch, they're great for this time of year. If you're into high ABV and not a fan of bitter or hoppy beers, try something like a scotch ale or barleywine. They can be harder to find depending on where you live, but you should at least be able to find something like Dirty Bastard by Founders.

I didn't mind IPA's too much back about 8 years ago when there were only a few of them on the shelve. Now that literally every microbrewery has at least half a dozen of them, I feel like I am rummaging through a haystack of IPA's just to find a good Hefeweizen or Porter at my local grocery store.

Hell, even finding a blond or red ale is getting harder and harder.

Rohrbach's is one of the local breweries near me, and they do an awesome scotch ale. It is actually their signature beer:

I disagree and I like all types. IPAs have the most variety in terms of taste other than maybe sours or saisons. And while I like stouts, brown ales, and porters, they seem to be the go to "quality beers" for beginner beer drinkers and definitely have the least variety in terms of flavor.

Beginner beer drinkers, really? Porters are my favorite style of beer, and I just turned 40 this week. I have been drinking quality beer since I was legal to do so. I like all kind of beers, but to try to say IPAs are superior I think is silly. I like some IPAs but I have the same thoughts as a previous post, the beer aisles are overrun with them now.

I won't argue with you that it's a little annoying that stores are overrun with mostly IPAs but it just seems that a lot of people I know drank stouts and porters more when they first started getting into good beet myself included. They're sweeter and more accessible overall whereas the bitterness of IPAs is more offputting to a casual drinker I think

Fair enough, but I know plenty of people very off-put by the darker beers as well. Certain IPAs I like a lot, but I find a lot of them are just not very good, so I tend to avoid trying new ones lately. I am certainly up for any recommendations though. I still like an IPA over a Hefe any day.

I like triples and red ales myself, but I never have luck finding those when I go out drinking. The only triple that bars tend to sell is Victory Golden Monkey which is good but I like to mix it up. I don't know if you guys have Taco Mac by you but I used to go there and try different beers. Sadly there were maybe 5 triples that I tried and enjoyed and then 30 IPAs that all taste terrible.

On a side note I've never had a Sam Adams beer that I've enjoyed. All of them, including boston lagar, is just fucking dreadful.

Sam Adam's as a whole aren't completely horrible, but I consider them more of a big name brewery. In that sense, their offerings are better then something like Anheuser-Busch(which I am pretty sure just bottle sewer water and call it "beer").

I can't stand their Cherry Wheat though. One of my friends used to love it in college, freaking disgusting!

Ugh that's like my local Kroger/Publix that has walls of Leinenkugel and everything they make is dreadful. If I ever want to just relax and have a cheap beer in I either go with Corona or Michelob Ultra. If I can help it though I'll usually have something from Unibrou like a La Fin Du Monde or my current favorite an Allagash Tripel. Sadly I have to drive miles away just to get either of those =(

Eh, is Sam Adams really that bad, or is there a bit of a confirmation bias going on since they're pretty big? I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't think they're anything special, but I'm guilty of resenting them a bit over their size (particularly in how they influence the definition of a "craft brewer" so they can include themselves), so that could cloud my judgment. It's not something like Coors or Budweiser when you can clearly taste that it's cheap beer. There are probably plenty of Sam Adams beers you could give me in a blind tasting that I wouldn't realize were theirs.

They definitely make some good beers, their specialty beers are good. The regular boston lager is nothing special, but beats your generic American pilsner every day and is easy to drink. I definitely wouldn't have a corona over one as Jiggy said, that is just nasty.

Myrcenary double IPA, on the other hand, is quite good. I didn't really mean to get another IPA, let alone another double IPA, but I was looking specifically for a twelve pack and the particular liquor store I was at had a bit of a limited selection. It's part of a variety pack and I figured I'd get it since I've had Myrcenary before and remember liking it.

We only have a few IPA's over here that are served in bars/pubs. I've only ever tried one of them though that I forget the name of. It wasn't bad. I used to drink Becks and Stella too but that was because of student nights where it was £1-£1.50 a bottle/pint. Some gay bars still do Becks for £1 a bottle. I often see a sign outside the bar that says "we love being pounded" with prices on it. It's amusing.

Anyhow I'm always looking for something a bit different to try than my normal pint of Carling. The last beverage I had from another country was Tsingtao. That's a nice beer from Hong Kong.
