Dead Rising 4 was horrible. It needed a total overhaul.... RE7 should've been more like REmake and less like the fad of being chased, as is temporarily popular and wholly lacking in substance.

Capcom have screwed up Dead Rising at this point with 3 and 4. They either forgot or didn't know why Dead Rising 1 and 2 were good, and it's not massacring tons of zombies with overpowered weapons.

Not that it can't recover, as Resident Evil (arguably) did with 7.

No, the zombies in the game are just obstacles to reaching and completing the tightly timed objectives and fighting the psychopaths, killing the zombies themselves is not that fun because they are just fodder that don't offer any real resistance. If you're killing them, it's to gain as much exp. as possible while traveling to your next objective before you run out of time.

Also, the bright and upbeat backdrop contrasting to the zombies everywhere was part of the game's comedy.

3 and 4 took these things out.

That's like saying GTA is about running around causing chaos in the city. That's fun for like 3 hours tops and than becomes pointless, and that's where Dead Rising 3 and 4 are.

Except it's even worse in Dead Rising because the zombies don't even react.

Whether you care about the characters or story is irrelevant, the game doesn't have purpose if you just kill zombies until the timer runs out, you get a game over, and you do it again. Also, the characters (the people you rescue, etc.) were often sources of comedy, while the main story acted seriously. If more of that contrast that was originally part of the series's comedy.

The goal in the Dead Rising games, has never been killing zombies, even 3 and 4. The zombies were just there.

but the actual goal of the game was to kill all the zombies you could in various ways with various weapons using various methods

saving the people? they're annoying, no one likes them.

fighting the boss characters? also annoying with terrible gimmicks that everyone hates

the "story" is nonsensical and only exists to be ignored. they tried to make it a prominent part of 4.

it didn't work out so well, because we only want to kill zombies.

The first two games are highly interactive time management sims with a zombie-filled setting. You figure out where you need to be and what time you need to be there, and traverse the zombie-filled environment as quickly and as safely as possible to accomplish as much in your schedule as you possibly can. Killing zombies is a thing that HAPPENS, yes, but to say the game is about killing zombies totally misses the point and any player with that mindset would be lucky to even finish the story, let alone rescue everyone. Generally you want to AVOID killing zombies when you can, since any time you spend killing zombies is time that isn't spent moving towards your destination.

All Dead Rising 5 needs to be is a game where I can run around putting Servbot heads on as many zombies as possible within a time limit.

It's less emphasized in 2 and I haven't played 3 or 4 to know, but the first two games definitely present the zombies as an obstacle far more often than not. It's honestly pretty weird to deny that tbh. If you just run around killing zombies you're not going to finish the game. Left 4 Dead is a game that's just about killing hundreds of zombies.
