Unrelated to the original but on the subject of media:
I saw FOX the other day for literally 30 seconds and that was still long enough to hear them talking about this "MUSLIM criminal". They were close to yelling the word. It felt like a parody.

I just saw that Trump might use executive privilege to keep Comey from testifying.

Why is the answer to the question "How do we quiet down this Russian scandal?" always "Do more shit to make us look guilty of something."

When he wanted to declare a bullshit conflict of interest to block the special investigator.

Largely because a middleman stepped in and blocked the block.

Which is what tends to happen this administration. He refuses to realize shit's bad, but other people involved don't and stop it.

I was re-reading something I posted about how 2016 was a shit year for me and I realized how naive I was.

I was under the assumption that Trump would be letting Mike Pence run the country while he didn't do anything.

Now I wish that was the case, because a Trump presidency has been massive trainwreck, to understate the situation.

This is also one of the weirded effects of the current era - in that I feel like a goddamn genius. Not by my own merits, no. I'm far from a genius. But in an era of anti-intellectuallusm, believing in climate change and vaccination apparently puts me above the curve!

Yeah I'm not buying it. If they're voting for Trump, it's because they agree with his ideals, at least more so than Clinton's. It has little to do with which party he falls under unless you're arguing that "the religious right" (which is basically just "the right") are all idiots blinded by labeling.

Yeah, the GOP is opposed to abortion and same sex marriage. The Democrats are for these things. The GOP is generally for more Christianity in the public sphere and Democrats are opposed. As long as this is the case, the personal morals or beliefs of the candidates will not matter.

I mean, if Trump had publicly repudiated Republican policy on these issues the way he did with the economic ones, there could be a shift. But he didn't, he just expressed disinterest and hinted he would let Pence or the GOP handle the social issues.

This is still kind of dumb. Like in normal elections, go ahead, but Trump is blatantly against a billion other things that are part of Christianity. Like, I cannot imagine how many ideals "grab them by the pussy" breaks by itself. And he also talked about being fine with same sex marriage, though I can buy not believing him, no one did anyway.

From the vox article:

Consider this passage:

Yet under this agreement, we are effectively putting these reserves under lock and key, taking away the great wealth of our nation. Great wealth. Phenomenal wealth. Not so long ago, we had no idea we had such wealth. And leaving millions and millions of families trapped in poverty and joblessness.

The part I italicized is where something triggers Trump — Wealth? Wait, I like wealth! Wealth is so great. — before he goes back to reading. This has the effect of suggesting that Trump is encountering his speech along with the rest of us, knowing as little about it in advance as we do.

This puts words to the negative emotions i feel when trump says things.

That sounds fairly accurate. You know how sometimes if you're reading something aloud without at least reading a sentence ahead, you end up emphasizing the wrong words because it says something different than what you thought it would be? I forget if it was this speech or last week's NATO harangue, but I seem to recall Trump doing that recently.
