They were dumb enough to make an R rated movie and didn't include a bunch of nude scenes that people wanted to see.

Nobody wanted a Baywatch movie, much less one with such a seemingly heavy focus on a plot.

They should have had a mixed gender shower scene with full frontal nudity with both genders. That would have caused enough talk to get people to the theater.

Turning a thinly-veiled sexually-exploitative tv show into a movie in an era where thinly-veiled sexual exploitation can get you tarred and feathered. Seemed destined to be a megastar to me.

>Baywatch is popular because of pam anderson and the other babes. Also that one guy for female viewers.
>hey, let's make a modern sequel, but this time with a 6'4 steroid meathead and a prettyboy as the main draw

Yeah, way to kill the demographic.

It's the reviews. It sounds like they tried to do a 21 Jump Street but relied too much on juvenile, dumb, gross out humor. I haven't watched it but that's the impression I've been getting.

21 Jump Street did that too, but they pretty much put movies like this on blast and even in the sequel, they put those on blast too.

That was my point. They made fun of movies that were trying to bring back classic TV shows. Then we got CHIPS which supposedly sucked ass, and now Baywatch. Both of those films just didn't have the right writing and director to make them work.

Oh my bad I thought you were talking about reviewers putting them on blast.

You're right yeah. Baywatch seems like it's an entire movie of gross out gags like corpse juice and dead man penis while characters stand around saying "Why are lifeguards solving crimes?!" while The Rock takes it seriously. The movie looks sort of predictable.

Which is why I liked 21 and 22 Jump Street. The entire films were like "The idea of a unit of cops who go to High Schools and Colleges for Drug rings. Is just ridiculous." then they took that idea and made it funny.

Plus, the idea of Lifeguards investigating crimes and shit, IS dumb. At least with 21 and 22, you could sort of "believe" that they would send the police to do the job. The humor in 22 and 21 was dumb and immature but it worked. Gross out humor can go only go far till you get annoyed with it.

Plus it only works well when it involves Bruce Campbell in Ash vs The Evil Dead. (But that's mainly due to the source material also being gross and ridiculous.)

Multiple things.
1) Nobody wanted a Baywatch movie
2) It was shit
3) It even looked like shit in the trailers
4) Baywatch is about boobies, it's fine if it has hot dudes too but there needs to be a focus on chicks. And if they were going hard R there should've been a lot of female nudity, and there was none. And the entire ad campaign centered around 2 dudes and unfunny jokes.

A lot of the fame from the original show is The Hoff and Pamela Anderson. They played as spoofs of themselves for years after the TV show. The Hoff still does.

Hell I'm gonna make a wild guess that this movie has a Hoff cameo that we've seen better elsewhere. I wonder if that's a part of it. The only thing left that's iconic from Baywatch is the slow motion running and that gets a lame joke in the trailer.
