"Ugh you're so damn selfish!" Jinx says as she storms back to the elevator. "I'm staying here."

"Well that's that," you say as the girls finally enter the elevator. "I think you should go cool off."

"And what? Let you go back on your promise? Maybe go behind Raven's back even."

You stop walking towards the elevator and sigh again.

You then laugh.

"I'll let that slide, because you're angry. Go, cool off, do something productive to blow off steam. We don't know each other that well, so you don't really have reason to trust me, but I promise to keep my promise. Not just to you but to Raven. Especially to Raven."

You walk to the elevator and ride up with the girls. You arrive at the top floor and exit, Jinx proudly leading the way into Ops.

"You're back," Robin says when he spots you all. "What about Kid Flash?"

"He isn't taking me back to Central City, so I'm not taking him back as a boyfriend," Jinx shrugs as she collects her items from the shopping. "Just how it goes."

"He's a bit steamed over it," you say. "He's not the type to hold grudges is he?"

"I don't think so," Robin says. "But I know he can be competitive."

You nod, of course leaving out how part of the argument had to do with your lewd relations with the girls.

"So uh, how'd you two do at the tea shop?" he asks.

"I got my Lapsang Souchong," Raven says, "and Rorek picked out Junshan Yinzhen."

"Uh... Cool," Robin says, nodding.

"And I feel like having some," you say as you take out the boxes. "Something to relax us, hm?"

"Yes, definitely," Raven says.

"Bleh," Jinx says as she pours herself a glass of orange juice.

Raven just grumbles at Jinx while you get out a kettle and fill it with water. You have it heat up on the stove while Raven prepares tea cups.

"Do you want to try the Junshan Yinzhen with me or are you alright with having the Lapsang Souchong again?" you ask her.

"No I'll try the Junshan," she says. "I want to see what these silver needles from Gentleman Mountain are about."

You open the box Junshan Yinzhen and let the aroma waft out.

"Mmm, fresh," you say as you take some and sprinkle them into the cups.

"So uh," Raven says quietly as Robin joins Starfire on the couch and Jinx sits at the table across the way. "Are you... really not ashamed?"

You look at Raven with confusion and a bit of surprise.

"Raven, we both went along with it, how could we be ashamed?"

"Well, I'm not ashamed, but it's not like I don't regret going along," she says. "You don't feel that way?"

"Honestly, Raven," you say, almost feeling disappointed. "Our... fun, was too... Too... hot to ever regret or be ashamed of."

Raven blushes and pouts, you just smirk. You take her hand, raise it up and give it a kiss.

"Only you, from now until the end," you say.

"It better stay that way," she says sternly.

"I promise. It's not quite lunch yet, but I was thinking we..."

"Have something here at the Tower. Wait, are we saving barbecue for dinner?"

"DOH!" Robin says. "We forgot the charcoal..."

"Oh...!" you say. "Well, maybe we can go back later, get a big bag of it. In the meantime, I can always use more of my fry cook skills to make something for everyone."

"Like what?" Raven asks.

"Whatever you want, however you want it."

"We've got plenty of bread, why not just make sandwiches?"

"Certainly," you say. "Sandwiches done fry cook style."

The kettle whistles and you turn off the heat. You pour the hot water into the cups and watch the silver needle leaves produce a golden-yellow color. Raven huffs to cool the tea while you put the kettle back down. You also blow on your tea to cool it.

"Smells nice," she says.

"Indeed," you say.

You two sip at the same time, and then sigh happily with the mellow, relaxing taste.

"It's much smoother than green tea," she says. "And not so... grassy, I guess is the word."

"Yes, a much more pleasant thing to drink," you say. "That plus its golden color, which of course makes the mind think of gold the treasure, is why the Imperial Court liked it most among all the types of tea."

"It does look nice," Raven says as she looks in the cup.

You two sip and watch as Beast Boy and Cyborg return to Ops.

"Afternoon, gents," you say. "Did Cyborg get his new nuts?"

"Yeah, he finished polishing them," Beast Boy laughs.

"Ha ha," Cyborg says. "So we ready for that barbecue or what?"

Cyborg's grin is soon deflated by the apologetic looks on your and Robin's faces.

"Aw don't tell me you forgot the charcoal?" he says.

"We did..." you and Robin says.

"Well, we'll have to go get some later then," Cyborg sighs. "What's the plan for lunch then?"

"Sandwiches," you say before sipping more tea.

"Is that all? Doesn't seem like much."

"Oh don't worry, these won't be simple PB & J or something like that," you say. "We can get real fancy with the recipes."

"Like how?" Cyborg asks with a raised eyebrow.

"Ever heard of a Jack Benny?"

"A Jack what now?"

"It's a grilled cheese sandwich, with bacon inside."

Cyborg's jaw drops.

"I must have that kind of sandwich!" he says.

"For Beast Boy, I suggest..."

I don't mean to leave out our other readers but it's been almost 24 hours so...

"What?" Beast Boy says.

"It's a grilled cheese using Swiss cheese," you say.

"Whoa...!"

"In fact, we can marry these ideas!" you say. "Cyborg could have a Jack Benny from the Alps, using Swiss cheese with his bacon grilled cheese sandwich."

Cyborg gasps as wonder fills his eyes.

"Let's totally do that!" he says with a big grin.

"Alright," you grin. "What kind of sandwiches would everyone else like?"

"Is there something special you can do with a roast beef sandwich?" Robin asks.

"Bossie on a Board, huh?" you say. "Well, perhaps we can trade that board in for a raft, maybe mix some mayo and ketchup into a sauce so we can douse the meat."

"Wait, I think I can decode that," Robin says. "You'll toast the bread, and then cover the roast beef in the sauce."

"Exactly," you say.

"Could you do the dousing of my sandwich with my Tamaranian sauce?" Starfire asks.

"I suppose I could," you say. "What is Tamaranian sauce like?"

Starfire flies out of the room then flies back into the room with a jar labeled "Sauce" in hand-written letters. She opens it up, and inside is a creamy, light red substance, which looks rather appealing, like a tomato sauce. The smell, however, is strongly spicy smell, like pepper and salsa together in one.

"Whew," you say as the smell clears up your nose. "Alright, I suppose we could douse something in that."

"What about animal style?" Jinx asks.

"Animal style?" everyone else repeats.

"Well, animal style is specifically mustard," you say, "but I suppose we could call this... Tamaranian Style?"

Starfire beams with a smile at that idea.

"How about you, Jinx?" you ask.

"Can't I just have a PB and J on a raft?" Jinx asks.

"Oh, PB and J is too simple, even with toast," you say. "How about Noah's Boy on a Board? It's a ham sandwich, but we can drag it through Wisconsin or the Alps if you like."

"Ham and cheese?" she says. "I guess."

"And you, Raven?" you ask.

"Hmm..." she says as she sips a bit more tea. "I'll have what you'll have."

"In that case, a pair of..."

"Noah's Boy All the Way with the Works."

"What're those?" she asks with a chuckle.

"You'll see," you say before sipping more tea.

After you and Raven finish your tea, you begin work on the sandwiches. You put bread in the toaster for Robin's Bossie on a Raft while you get all the other ingredients in order.

You get plenty of slices of bread, cheese and meat out, along with lettuce, tomatoes, bacon and the condiments. You make the mayo-ketchup sauce for Robin while you put ham and cheese together for Jinx. You spread on mayonnaise to two slices then set the knife aside.

"Do you want to paint this yellow or leave it alone?" you ask Jinx.

"Leave it alone."

"Noah's Boy on a Board, dragged through Wisconsin," you say as you slap on the ham and cheddar.

You serve it up, she takes the sandwich and pours herself another glass of orange juice.

The toaster pops out Robin's bread, you pull those out and slather on the mayo-ketchup sauce before putting a few slices of roast beef on and putting the bread together.

"Bossie on a Raft, doused," you say as you serve it up.

Robin takes his dish while you move on to preparing the Tamaranian style by slathering the roast beef into her special sauce. You fry it on a separate pan then slap it between two more slices of bread.

"Bossie on a Board, Tamaranian style," you say as you serve it up.

"Mmm, the roasted sauce is delightful," Starfire says as she takes her plate.

"How much do you want in your sandwich, Cyborg?" you ask. "A standard Jack Benny would have two cheese and two bacon, but it can be multiplied. Like a three by three or four by four."

"Yeah, four by four," Cyborg nods with a grin. "Gimme that one."

You bring out four strips of bacon and four slices of Swiss cheese and put them together on the side. You butter slices of bread on one side while a skillet heats up. You set one slice butter-down while also cooking the bacon. You do the same for Beast Boy's sandwich, cooking one slice butter-down on the pan.

The bacon gets crisp, you slip those over and stack them on Cyborg's to go cheese, two bacon, cheese, cheese, the other two bacon, last cheese, top slice of bread.

"Jack Benny from the Alps going four by four," you say.

You serve that up and Cyborg takes it, that big grin still on his face. For Beast Boy's, you simply stack three slices of Swiss on then put on the top slice. You finally get to your sandwich with Raven's.

"If you recall," you say to her as you put bread slices aside, "All the Way on anything means putting on a sandwich or burger means putting all possible ingredients on. The Works refers to having all possible condiments. Therefore..."

You mix mustard into what's left of Robin's mayo-ketchup sauce to make an ultimate sauce and slather that on the slices of bread. You then speak as you stack.

"Onions, ham, cheese--cheddar and Swiss--lettuce, and tomatoes."

"Looks good," she says.

"But, aren't you forgetting something?" Starfire asks. "If 'The Works' means using all condiments, you need to put on Tamaranian sauce as well."

"Oh, that's a good point..." you say as you look at the spicy red sauce in the jar.

Raven looks at you, then smirks.

"What's the matter, Rorek?" she asks. "Can't stand the heat? I thought you liked spicy foods."

You look at her with a flat expression on your face.

"Well, if you're alright with having it," you say. "After all, we're both having them with the Works."

Raven's smirk goes away.

"Well, I mean," she says.

"No, no," you say. "Let's add the very spicy Tamaranian sauce to our sandwiches, it's the rules of 'The Works'."

Raven looks a bit worried as you take the jar of Tamaranian sauce and thoroughly spread it in between the lettuce and meat.

"Here you are," you say to her as you serve one up. "Eat up."

Raven looks at her sandwich with a tentative but steady stare. She looks up at you and you two lock eyes. It's like a stand off, both of you waiting for the other to make the first move.

"At the same time?" she asks.

"Yes," you say. "Ready."

You two bring up your sandwiches from the plates and to your mouths.

"Set," you say.

You and Raven open your mouths. And after another glance at each other, you two bite down at the same time.

The unique mix of mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup. The juicy tomato. The crisp snap of lettuce and onion, and even the creamy cheddar and Swiss. All of that is soon overpowered by the spicy sauce from another planet!

You breathe through your nose as the spice burns your tongue. You chew as fast as you can to get the bit of sandwich down, gasping for breath when you do.

"Wow," you say. "*sniff* That really- *sniff* Uh that really- *sniff* That really clears the sinuses."

"Yeah," Raven says before letting out a soft cough. "Could *cough* Could I *cough* get something to drink?"

"Yes, I was just about to get something myself," you say, feeling a cough coming on.

You fetch the milk from the fridge and pour yourself and Raven tall glasses. You and Raven take a glass each and drink. You both end up chugging over half the glass before stopping, gasping for air.

"We're gonna need more milk." you say, breathing heavily.

"Already?" Robin says.

"We can get more milk at the same time we get charcoal," Cyborg says. "Where does everyone wanna have the barbecue? Rooftop or ground level?"

"Rooftop," you say along with Beast Boy, Robin and Jinx.

"Rooftop it is, then," Cyborg says.

You nod, and then take another bite of the sandwich. And then again have to chug milk. Your glass runs empy to you refill it quickly and chug more milk again.

"Refill," Raven says, holding out her glass.

You pour milk for her, and she chugs again. You two end up needing a couple more refills each by the time you've finished eating the spiced up sandwiches.

"Finally," you say, breathing heavily again.

"You've, you've got a milk mustache," Raven chuckles.

You lick your lips while looking at hers.

"So do you," you chuckle back.

Raven licks, and then gets a napkin to wipe the milk away. You wipe with your own napkin, and feel the embers of the spice linger on your tongue, making it a bit numb.

Everyone has finished their sandwiches, you put the sandwich ingredients away as everyone gathers their plates into the sink.

"Alright," you say, closing the refrigerator door. "Until it's time for our dinner barbecue, I suggest you and I work on magic."

"Okay," Raven says. "What kinds were you thinking of?"

"Arcane energy magic and your use of Defensive spells against them," you say. "We've barely scratched the surface on those, I want to see how high you can go."

"Bring it on," she smirks. "But let me get changed back into my usual clothes first."

"Certainly," you say.

Raven heads off, you rinse the dishes, butter knives and frying pans used before putting them in the dish washer machine.

"Raven and I will be outside on the ground level," you say. "Let us know when it's time for the barbecue."

"Will do," Cyborg says.

You exit Ops and wait for Raven at the door. She walks out in her leotard and cloak and follows you into the elevator. You go down to the lobby and exit the tower. You head off to the side to a nice open space.

"Ready?" you say.

"Ready," she says.

"Arcana Tertium, Accudo!"

"Eirris Kidur Deimy!"

Raven defends the blast, you disperse arcane energy in small quantities and let them float around.

"Arcana Quartus, Imbre!"

You fire a buck shot of arcane energy, to which Raven's shield withstands.

"Imbre! Imbre! Imbre!"

You keep up the shotgun like action, not because it'll break the shield but because it keeps Raven's focus on you as you arrange the dispersed energy to where you want it.

"Arcana Tertium, Accudo!" Raven says.

"Eirris Kidur Deimy!" you say quickly.

Your shield blocks her arcane attack.

"My my, how crafty of you," you say. "Managing a shield while attacking. That's some detailed manipulating of mana."

"Thanks," she says. "Arcana Quartus, Imbre!"

Now Raven uses the buck shot! You strengthen your shield and withstand the attack.

"I'm impressed you can also copy the spells so easily," you say.

You concentrate the dispersed energy behind Raven.

"Volitare!" you say. "Accudo!"

"Wha?!" Raven says as she whips around to look.

The energy shoots at Raven, she puts up another shield, but not strong enough, so it shatters.

"You'll need to have your head on a swivel," you say as you get closer to her first shield. "The Arcane users of the families will be just as tricky."

You charge Arcane energy again.

"Arcana Melleo!" you shout.

A very blunt blast hits her shield and creates a large crack in it.

"There's also ways to use this for melee, when one's range is poor," you explain.

"Eirris Kidur Deimy!" Raven says quickly before you hammer the barrier again. "Arcana Tertium, Accudo!"

You side step and dodge the attack.

"You'll need to improve move selection," you say. "The spread shot would've surely gotten me."

"Maybe," she smirks. "But then I wouldn't have caught you."

"Caught me?" you say.

Suddenly, ice surrounds your right leg!

"Whoa!" you say.

"I can use shrewd tactics, too," she says.

"Well, you should understand," you say, "just this much won't be enough."

You use fire elemental magic to melt the ice away, then use

You double gun her shield, alternating left and right. She's completely focused on defending, which gives you time to back up.

"In order to win, you need to incapacitate," you continue. "One leg does not incapacitate."

"Noted," she says. "But are you really trying to win? You may be attacking but it feels like you're just playing defense."

"Well, I'm just trying to test you," you say. "Maybe I'm not being a good teacher."

"No, just spar like you mean it," she says.

"Alright then," you say. "Gemina Sextus, Accudo!"

The increased intensity and frequency of your attacks strains Raven's shield, she puts more effort into holding it up.

"Arcana Quintus, Accudo!" she says.

Raven shoots another blast of arcane energy, you dodge with a roll. She keeps shooting to keep you moving, you build up energy.

"Gemini Septima, Accudo!" you shout.

"Eirris Kidur Deimy!" Raven says quickly.

You fire two massive blasts, and their force pushes you back. The blasts hit her fresh shield but it still shatters! She staggers and falls back from the force, you force your legs to get moving and run forward.

Raven levitates back to her feet, hands and mana at the ready. You have your own, and take aim.

"Arcana Tertium, Accudo!" you say.

*BOOMF* You shoot the ground in front of Raven to kick up dirt and dust! While she's coughing, you rush through the cloud and tackle Raven on the other side. You two fall to the ground, you right on top.

"Was that sparring like I mean it?" you ask with a smirk.

"Yes," she says. "But don't think you've won."

Raven suddenly phases through the ground and therefore out of your grip!

"Whoa...!" you say as you watch her levitate back to her feet. "I didn't know you could do that."

"Well I can't just let you know all my tricks," she smirks as she looks down at you.

"I suppose so," you say.

You flip onto your back and aim up.

"Arcana Tertium, Accudo!"

Raven leans back to dodge your shot, you grab her legs and she falls again. You roll up and back to then lie down on her like a pinfall.

"Remember that it isn't over until the other is incapacitated," you smirk. "Even if it'd be underhanded, don't think it won't happen in a duel."

"Got it," she says. "Now get off me."

You two chuckle as you get up and help her to her feet.

"Let's switch gears to Summoning," you say. "I'm sure you have a capacity for animals a bit higher level than even what I'm capable of."

"Wow, really?" she says.

"Of course. Clearly your reserves of mana are high, as is your capacity to learn. Go ahead and draw the circle."

Raven walks off to the side and uses magic to create the circle.



"Focus your mind," you say. "Envision clearly, a snake. A serpent. Something that slithers and coils around. This will be a level five summon, meaning you'll achieve something even I've struggled with."

"So I'd be better at it than you?" she smirks.

"Don't get a big ego over that," you say. "There's still a lot I can do that you haven't even come close to yet. Just try and summon a snake."

Raven focuses, eyes closed and hand out over the summoning circle. She's quiet as the energy builds. Then, in a flash, a snake appears, all black like her wolves. It hisses at it flickers its black tongue.

But it's only about a foot long.

"Wait, it looked way bigger when I imagined it," Raven says. "And do not take that out of context."

"That is a very common obstacle when summoning an animal such as a snake," you say. "It always comes out shorter than you want it, but sometimes if you try and compensate, then it'll end up longer."

"Then why did you have me try such a tricky summon?"

"Those who can get a snake the way they want it are then able to master the other levels with considerable ease. Scale is very important when summoning the level six and seven constructs. Otherwise you end up with a hawk as big as an airplane or a lion as small as a house cat, and either way it's a waste of time and energy."

"So if I can make a snake the length I want it to be, I can move on to summoning lions and tigers?"

"And bears, oh my," you say with a chuckle.

"I should not have set you up for that," she chuckles back.

"But there is an advantage to a snake that size," you say. "You can summon more than one and then use them in tandem."

"Like you and that squirrel army a couple days ago?" she says.

"Exactly. Except snakes are far more lethal."

"Try making cobras over and over," you suggest. "A brood of those will be a very useful in battle."

"Because they're poisonous?"

"Well, not in how a real cobra would be. Being bitten by a cobra summoning construct would only result in a magic user's mana flow being temporarily disrupted, or it would disable an enemy summoning construct."

"Wow, that is very useful in a duel," she says as she looks at her generic snake.

"Or deadly, in a real-life situation," you say. "Go ahead, try and summon a cobra."

Raven makes a new circle and focuses her mind again.

The new circle flashes and a new snake is summoned, and it is an all-black snake, its hood confirms it is a cobra.

"Well now that's bigger than I expected," Raven says.

"It still takes time to get the scaling right," you say. "Just try matching that size for now."

Raven nods and closes her eyes again. She makes another summoning circle, concentrates, and summons another black cobra.

"Yes!" Raven says. "Same length."

"Hmm..." you say. "Not quite, I'm afraid."

"What?"

You straighten out her snakes with magic and put them side by side. One of them is a couple centimeters shorter than the other.

"Very close, though," you say.

"Darn it," she grumbles.

"Don't worry, you don't have to get this perfect right away," you say. "You're already a jump ahead of me, which is impressive as you've only been learning this for a few days. Try again."

Raven makes a fourth summoning circle, focuses, and summons her third cobra. It looks identical to the other two, but when you measure them out, it's actually halfway between the two. In fact, it's exactly halfway, one centimeter off each one.

"This is actually impressive in itself," you say. "Slight differences in length aren't going to ruin anything. Let's see if these snakes have any venom to them."

You summon several frogs, all of them white as snow.

"Frogs are level 3 creatures, limited intelligence but useful with their jumping ability as well as amphibious nature. Now, try and get your snakes to keep up with the frogs, and bite as many of them as possible before they get to the water. Ready?"

"Ready," she says as she directs her three cobras and one normal snake at your frogs.

"Go!"

The race is on, your ten frogs hopping their way towards the shore while Raven's snakes slither after, the two of you keeping up from behind. The snakes make up ground quickly, and she has them break off to flank your frogs. Your frogs hop as fast and as far as they can, getting away just as the snakes come up near them.

"Hiss!" one of Raven's snakes leaps, and it grabs a frog out of midair.

"Nice, you got the timing down," you say. "Still nine frogs left."

The one cobra leaves the frog frozen on the ground and it continues pursuit with the others. The cobras lash out just as the frogs hop away but Raven's regular snake stays grounded. You see what she's on to, but there's not much you can do to change your frogs' fate. Adjusting their hopping rhythm or angles just makes them more vulnerable, and they're already going at full speed.

Raven's snakes pull off their plan on one frog already: the regular snake make the frogs anxious and jumpy, so the cobras can take advantage by striking when the frog lands. The other eight frogs keep moving, but Raven's snakes systematically picks off one after another.

It gets down to only five frogs, you have one frog jump short, throwing off the rhythm enough that he then leap frogs--to use the pun--over the others, avoiding a snake bite. That one frog manages a lead while the snakes go after the other four, and gets just a few feet from the shore.

"Hiss!!" the regular snake lets out as it rushes right for that frog.

*bloop* The frog jumps into the water, saving itself.

"Nine out of ten caught," you say as you pick up a stiffened frog from the ground. "Well done in coordinating your snakes."

"Thanks," she says. "But at the same time, you could say I didn't do well enough. Letting one get away could be the difference between stopping something bigger happening."

"A good way of thinking about it," you say. "Or perhaps a morbid way. Either way, I'm proud of your progress."

You give Raven a kiss on the forehead, she blushes and giggles.

"Let's take a bit of a break," you say. "We did a lot, right after lunch."

"What do you suggest?" she asks.

"We don't have to do anything particular, we can just rest out here, enjoy the sun and the breeze."

You lead the way over to a spot higher up on the hill and sit down, facing the bridge, bay and clear blue sky. Raven sits beside you, smoothing her cloak back so she doesn't sit on it.

You two watch the boats in the bay, some sailing in and others heading out. Raven wraps her arms around her legs under the thighs, resting her chin on her knees.

"So..." she says after a few moments of silence.

"Hmm?" you say.

"Do you... Should we... *sigh* I'm not even sure how to bring it up."

"Bring what up?"

"So you're suggesting we tell her to get out and go somewhere else?"

"Kicking her out seems a bit harsh," you say. "I think we should..."
