Huge difference.

.9999~ doesn't equal one, but the difference is infinitely small, which since infinity is just a concept, means that the difference doesn't really exist (in theory).

.888~ though is significantly different from .999~, even if you round up .888~ to .89, it's still way smaller then .99 let alone .99~.

Meanwhile infinity has not been proven in any real sense, so shouldn't be used in real mathmatics.

the difference between the numbers in the subject line is about one-hundred- thousandth of percent. The difference between the numbesr in the first post is about 12.5%, so if we accepted .8888888~ equal to .9999999, then we would have to accept 100,000~ equal to 112,500.
