I hate seeing polls go down the list just because people that vote don't also give a reply.

Plenty of people on this site compulsively vote in polls. If it's not generating discussion nobody actually cares.

I don't bother to vote in polls that don't have an answer I can vote for.
In the end some people might never comment on a poll that only gets a few votes because the amount of other posts causes it to be lost in the chatter.

If the poll creator wants more participation, they should take responsibility for bumping it themselves. If a random passerby wants more results they can do the same thing. You are allowed to bump topics, you don't need an abusable and bothersome mechanic to do it for you.

See Ogurisama's "rate this episode of this series" topics or MICHALECOLE's "best starter Pokemon" contest for examples.

Thing is, 5 day old topics don't continue getting random votes when they're that far gone. If somebody really stumbles upon it at that point, chances are they searched for it and have something to contribute to the discussion, rather than just really wanting their single vote to be noticed by everyone else..

Auto bumping just creates way more clutter by constantly putting any and every result at the top. Everybody would end up putting unnecessary polls in their topics too just to have a built-in bump mechanic. "Stealth bumping" would make a return as people with numerous alts can just anonymously bring a topic to the top of the list without consequence. Not every poll is super important and must be seen, it's better that the riff Raff fall off the radar.

many polls get 10-100x more votes than posts. the front page would be nothing but polls.

I think it would be stupid to do at all, but if you wanted something like this to work it would have to be after like every 10th vote or every 10th vote on a specific option.

OSDs3bK

It would be extremely disruptive, especially with polls that allow multiple votes from the same person
