I think we can all agree that since the fans will get to choose, that it's gonna be one of those 3.


And here be the reasoning.

FF (not a ton of people like it that much)
II (everyone hates it)
III (already remade)\
IV (already remade)
V (wasn't released in America)
VII (being remade)
X (HD rereleased)
XI (MMO)
XII (HD rereleased)
XIII (too new, even if this is voted, they won't choose it).
XIV
XV.....

Who do you think the fans (in Japan probably) will choose?

I don't think there's any confirmation they're working on another one just yet, just to clear up any possible confusion early on for folks who haven't read the relevant link. And thank goodness for that, really.

I also don't think it'll depend on the Japanese audience only. To survive, Final Fantasy has to remain appealing in the West. This is good news for FF6 fans, because Japan doesn't love that game like you do.

Personally I want it to be IX, but VIII makes the most sense.

VIII looks HORRIBLE today, IX because it was more whimsical and cartoonish is not near as bad.

And it's the second (first run) and third (overall) best selling game in the main series, so it was very popular. And some of it's moments in true HD would be mindblowing.

My money would be on 6 tbh. A graphical overhaul would do that game the world of good as well as revamped gameplay.

VIII and IX are equally deserving albeit I disliked 8, I think if you're going the revamp route then IX probably needs it more than VIII despite releasing after it.

Really?

I would argue CT and FF VI are the 2 best looking 2d games (that hold up, SMRPG and DKC3 both look better, but their semi 3d doesn't hold up as well).

I would argue CT and FF VI are the 2 best looking 2d games (that hold up, SMRPG and DKC3 both look better, but their semi 3d doesn't hold up as well).

I'm not saying it looks bad, but imagine how much more immersive it would be with full 3d realisation. Kefka's final form would be awe inspiring etc. It could gain much from it... and if there's one area of SE I do have confidence in it's their art department.

But imagine like, Ragnarok attacking Pandora, or the Lunar Tear, or Eden, or entering Esther, or the destruction of Trabia, or the march on Dollet Beach, and return from, or the Garden vs Garden scene in full 3d....

I just don't think with the exception of the Empire and the destruction of WoB that there are that many ultra impressive set pieces in VI, unlike VIII.

Yeah you have a point, but I think VI was limited by tech, whereas with VIII and the way it was realised, you'd basically just get the same but with better graphics.

It's hard for me to be unbiased about it though as VIII left me cold on the whole.

And that's completely fair. It left a TON of people like that, hence why IX was a return to I-IV type of game. So many people were so cold to VIII, that they regressed all the way back to their beginnings.

Either way if that list were all we could choose from, I'd go with Viii. As stated by others, it is the most appropriate.

However if I could choose from off the list, I'd go with Vii. Sure Vii is already being remade, but a good remake would be nice to go along with the crappy one already in the works.

No, the Advance games aren't remakes. They are advanced ports. The DS games were remakes.

If VI is remade with revamped gameplay and more difficulty ala FFIV DS it would probably be a best game ever contender for me so I'm really hoping for that one.

I really hope it's 8. The PS1 generation has aged worse than any other and since the biggest impact these remakes have is the graphical overhaul, something from that gen would benefit most. FF6 still looks and plays great and I have no problem ever going back to it, still blows me away. FF8... not so much. I will admit that a full 3D remake of 6 would be incredible, and I think of the Opera scene on today's consoles much more than I would like to admit... but I've always been biased toward 8 and I feel like it needs redemption. I feel like they could even clean up some of the writing and make some of the plot reveals hit a bit harder.
