Board 8 > anyone else noticed gameFAQs locking up on mobile?

I've just gotten a new phone, so can confirm it wasn't just the device

i feel like the site regularly locks up for a few seconds when reading or trying to post in a topic. I can only assume it's because of the ads. I want to support this site but if the ads are locking my phone up i'm going to have no choice

Anybody have strategies to defeat this?

The ads make it terrible sometimes. It can also suck battery and data if you don't watch it. I tried a third-party app, but that had other issues. :\

Yeah, it's awful at times. Sometimes I'll try type a post and the keyboard just lags the fuck up, typing literally like a letter every 2-3 seconds. I can only assume it is from some ad hogging up resources. It's hit and miss but I can't tell until I attempt to type a post up, otherwise it works fine

Yes, I've been having this happen frequently on a brand new phone too. I thought it was my old phone being slow originally, but now I've realized that it's definitely the site. It'll just get hung up for like 3 to 5 seconds when trying to type out a single letter for absolutely no reason.

I keep having GameFlux crash on me after briefly freezing, if that counts and/or is related.

Yeah I hit my data limit last month because of GameFAQs. Terrible site on mobile.

I use desktop view on mobile because the site functions terribly unless you disable Javascript. But disabling Javascript fucks over the ability to use other websites.

And even with Javascript disabled on mobile, desktop view still performs better.

I can confirm most of those problems too. Having massive lag typing this message.

Yes, I debugged it and there are javascript ads that basically run infinite loops reading all the shit on your page constantly. It basically runs your CPU to absolute maximum, so even if you have the latest phone that can run VR apps at 120fps, typing a short sentence still locks up the phone and drains the battery. I've reported about 10 of them but obviously that doesn't help.

@SBAllen either refuses to fix it or doesn't have the power to. Either way, he doesn't seem to care that his precious mobile version of the site (which is quite good) is literally unusable for no reason.

Disabling javascript ALSO doesn't work because several nice gamefaqs features use JS (editing, quoting). My best solution was to download the Firefox mobile browser, which lets you install Adblock, and use that exclusively for gfaqs. Been working well so far.

I've been using gameflux since I started having those problems a month or so ago. It's not bad but it sucks when you just want to quote part of a post rather than the whole thing
