1998 is 19 years ago.

The average age of most GameFAQs users is 28 or so, with a plus or minus of a few years either way.

Those users were 9 (or 7-12) in 1998.

Maybe it isn't the "best" one, even in my own opinion, but that's talking in terms of if I were to try to look at these games in a vacuum. But there's no fun in that, and it doesn't reflect how people evaluate things in reality. Even if I can convince myself that it's not the "best", it's undeniably still my favorite and the one I most enjoy coming back to. In that sense, it kind of is the best, at least as far as my evaluation is concerned. And obviously I'm not the only one who feels that way if the poll results are any reflection.


I don't blame people who don't like it though, because I feel the same way about supposed "greatest ____s" that I don't personally care for. It's easy to dismiss those biases when you don't care for something, because they don't exist, but if it's something you like they definitely affect your perception.

OoT is on every Nintendo home console since the N64 in some form. Well, except for Switch, but it will no doubt make its way there eventually.


As for can you actually get it for Wii VC? I don't know if that's operational at all anymore, so maybe not.

There are so many incredible games that are still amazing to this day: Ocarina of Time, MediEvil, Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Metal Gear Solid, 1080 Snowboarding, Half-Life, Thief, Baldur's Gate, Grim Fandango, Banjo-Kazooie, Xenogears, Panzer Dragoon Saga, StarCraft, Turok 2.... and the list goes on and on.

That's really surprising. Nintendo is notoriously clueless and anti-consumer with their online/VC stuff, so I can't believe they'd keep up the store for a console that's now two gens old.

Imo, Twilight Princess would be the best one if it wasn't for those wolf segments, slowest start to any Zelda game. Skyward Sword would have been the best if it didn't have those buggy motion controls. Wind Waker is pretty good but the art style is too different. I don't even know if Breath of the Wild counts as a Zelda game.

I had a enjoyable time with OoT. While I feel some games are better, I'll hardly rage if OoT/1998 takes it.

Besides, my original pick for best year was eliminated in the first round. =P

This, pretty much. Plus if it was just a matter of the year, then 1999, 1997, and 2000 wouldn't be that different.

01/97 killed me. 97 had one of my top three games (Grandia), but 01 just had classic after classic so I had to vote against it. Seeing the final not even be close is disappointing. I honestly didn't think 98 would get past quarters.

Are you referring to the Saturn release of Grandia because the North American version for PS1 didn't release until 1999.
