Don't have a Fry's. Office Depot isn't the same at all.

If I'm looking to buy a TV/computer/game I go to Best Buy. I only go to Office Depot when I run out of Pilot G2 pens.

Because you can typically get a wider selection and cheaper prices online through various retailers such as Amazon.
And the people who aren't really into shopping online are typically older people who don't know much about tech so they'll just.go down to Walmart and pick up whatever is there for a good price.

True, but with GCU, you can typically get most games cheaper at Best Buy.

because best buy is a specialty shop but what they sell is no longer a specialty. kind of like how gamestop used to be the place to get video games, but now 90% of mainstream games are sold in walmart, target, etc so why waste your time going to best buy?

laptop sales are down, tv sales are down, etc so best buy really doesnt have much left. as tech gets better, the average person seems to be refreshing less. i do financing for an IT company and I can see this happening across the board, not just in the consumer sphere.

Every time it's the same fucking story. We get there, can't find the thing he wants. If we do find it, it's super super expensive. I look at Amazon on my phone, find it in five seconds for a way cheaper price and he gets all pissed off about it.

I ask him why he still does this every time and his dipshit excuse is always "I like to actually walk in a store and see what I'm buying"

Like, WTF are you a woman or something? I'm pretty sure it's just because he's a complete moron when it comes to using a computer and doesn't want to admit it or just have me order shit for him.

1. Their service kinda sucks now
2. No cool stuff like Guitar Center anymore
3. Greatly reduced their anime section which was one of the few reasons I'd still visit their store
4. Bad/infrequent sales
5. Stores/brand needs a make over -- stores look/smell run down

Wrong.

The reason why they're failing is because the "big" things they're selling, such as household appliances (washing machines / fridges / televisions / home theater / etc) are heavily competed against by larger department stores like Sears, who have much better market outreach, advertising, and brand recognition.

The "small" devices get a lot of competition from the larger supermarkets. So their phones, tablets, various bluetooth accessories, DVD/Blu-ray players, etc are often sold at places like Wal-Mart or Target, for cheaper.

The media area has largely been shit for a long time. Not only are more and more people watching streaming movies / listening to streaming music these days, but their games business is and has always been crushed by GameStop and Amazon, and also the fact that digital sales are on the rise and phyiscal sales are going down.

When it comes to computers, Microcenter, Fry's, and other places absolutely crush them, and people are buying computers less these days because the computers they have last longer.

They've got literally nothing that you can't get elsewhere for cheaper or in a more convenient area.

they have a wider selection than walmart but walmart has like 90% of what you're looking for. best buy is pricey with most stuff.

i still buy games from best buy just because i have that gamers club thing or whatever and it's 20% off games and it last 2 years. think it was $30 when i bought it but think they jacked that up to like $50 or 60 for 2 years now. so it went from buying 5 new games to cover the price to having to buy like 10. not worth it as much now unless you're buying a lot of games.

I go to Best Buy and buy a majority of my electronics available there that's not my phone especially for the Geek Squad warranty. Something goes wrong, I can just walk in and exchange it, then walk right out.

Amazon doesn't give me that fast experience to do so, but it isn't to say everything I have goes wrong every minute though. Plus it's still cool to check out some things in person rather than on the specs sheet.

It amazes me why, in an age where online shopping is clearly taking over, that so many brick and mortar stores still insist on the insane prices they have.

Like...cost of shipping and storage cant possibly be the different between a 30 and 60 dollar dvd set, can it?

Their GCU is much cheaper than Amazon Prime and works on all new games, not just ones that recently came out.

Also, the stores are routinely getting beaten by their own online store, so the success is split between them.

Only if it's shipped and sold by amazon. Turns out those prices are usually not much cheaper than Best Buy's.
