I did not appreciate XIII implying that I made the first topic in order to "stealthily brag" about not finding the movie enjoyable in an attempt to show off my supposed superiority. As though my logic and thought process was that because I did not enjoy a mainstream superhero movie, I was somehow culturally or intellectually superior to those who did.

I made the original topic because yes, I had just watched Guardians 2 and did not enjoy the experience and that obviously inspired it but also because the number of instances where I had paid money to watch a movie I ultimately did not like were relatively low and was curious as to what the average experience among the board was like in regards to this.

as if he somehow knew my true intentions and I was being disingenuous or had resorted to an underhanded means of expressing a fairly innocuous opinion. Again, in some attempt to feed my ego that I was somehow superior. As if I had previously openly mocked or condescended upon people for enjoying media of any kind or that I was the type of person to do that. At the time, I had taken his comment as a confirmation that he did make those assumptions. If nothing else, I do pride myself on transparency regarding subjects that are brought up which considering the context that I have been posting on the board for a while now, was something I had hoped people would recognize. Admittedly that may be presumptuous on my part because I still consider myself relatively unknown or negligible among the board userbase.

I do not like being called disingenous, dishonest or a liar of any sort. I can handle being ridiculed (which I am guessing I will be for this post in addition to many others) or being called stupid. If I make a mistake I will acknowledge it. A factor in my anger was that this "incident" did happen on B8, a place where despite my many personal ups and downs with the site, was nevertheless somewhere I felt a sense of belonging to, somewhere I dared to care about people's opinions about some facets of me, somewhere I did take offense to being misrepresented on.

This is not an apology. This is simply an attempted explanation for the frustration and anger I felt which led to the seemingly misplaced outrage I exhibited last night. I just want to be known for who I am, all the shit included, but I do not like to think dishonesty is a large part of that. I know it is ridiculous to try to seem like I am never dishonest in any way but honesty/transparency is the one aspect of myself that I do care fiercely about.

I would also like to take this moment to bring up a possible misconception that people may have that I delete topics or posts in order to save face or some reason of that sort. As I have previously stated, I have done so but only when the content is mired in self-loathing, depression or otherwise unbearable selfishness. I acknowledge that making these posts in the first place was a mistake, is undeniably selfish and that deleting them possibly only furthered this misconception and drew attention to it. I also acknowledge that being self-aware does not make it any less irritating. I simply irresponsibly give into the cathartic desire that comes with posting about it in a place where people may see because I sure as fuck don't have anybody I feel like I can talk to about it in real life. The deletions happen within moments after I rationalize that I am actively becoming a lesser person by choosing to burden people with my largely inconsequential thoughts. I also suspect I will never accept offers to "talk about it" with people for the same reason. And I would just not know where to start. I apologize for continuing this charade for an embarrassing length of time.

Well, I'm too lazy to read kate's wall of text but her initial premise is wrong. Guardians 2 was a great movie, super hilarious and much better than I anticipated. Was it better than the original? No, but it was still a great movie.

Edit: On reread, she didn't say anything about Guardians being a bad movie. Just that she didn't enjoy it. That's fair. I did, though.

Starlord's charisma took a nosedive in this film. Rocket's charisma took a nosedive in this film. Gamora, who had a stealth intriguing plot in the first film had a hamfisted babby plot in this one. The same applies to Nebula. Drax was improved. Mantis was great. Kurt Russell was good for 20 minutes. Yondu was the key to the film being pretty good.

There were no stakes in this film. Nothing felt like it mattered. I didn't give a fuck if the villain won or not because the vast majority of the imperiled planets were full of nobodies that could die without a second's thought.

This Guardians felt way more like a Marvel Formula film than the last one. And the graphics weren't as impressive. Probably because graphics in general aren't impressive anymore; we've got some crazy stuff being churned out and it's all inured me to the quality of good CGI.

Also, I need to point this out, Thanos has really yet to do anything wrong in any movie aside from how he treated his daughters. So let's not put him in the movie where we can make him look like an actual bad guy. I'm probably going to root for Thanos in Infinity War, since at least he's not running around Europe beating the shit out of his friends on a weekend.

Hey I can admit when I enjoy bad shows and stuff like True Blood but I wouldn't say GotG2 was a bad movie. Biggest offense was the pacing, and maybe Starlord being a bit of a prat and that storyline being a bit cliche. But I wouldn't say that makes it bad.

That appears to indeed be part of the issue. That topic was not about that. and your smug assertion that it clearly was about that is what set me off originally. The sentiment is understandable and i was obviously not in the best place but the suggestion that i was hiding my "true intentions" (that you were somehow privy to) and being disingenuous in some way, i did not like. The topic was obviously inspired in part by the movie because I felt like I could add it to that list but for that topic I did extend the "conversation" to "bad movies that you paid to watch in theaters" and not simply just me disliking a popular movie. I mean I guess I should have made the topic months after this movie's release so it didn't seem so much the case but I would also not been thinking about the topic of "bad movies..." at all if something hadn't triggered it (which in this case was the recent viewing of the fucking movie).

from my memory you've had that posting style regarding matters of taste where if someone did not agree with you then they would just be objectively wrong. like in all those pokemon topics where charizard would be brought up. and presumably you're playing it up and not being serious so i don't think too much of it in those cases. so maybe unconscionably that may have played a part. but here in this case where i took it as a comment about my character i did not appreciate.

Why do you care so much? It seems like such a dumb thing to care about. And if it comes down to 'XIII is smug' or whatever fuck it. That's how he is to you. Just accept it and move on. You don't have to like everyone on the board.

i certainly don't like everyone on the board. i don't care so much if people on the board don't like me. i do care if they think negatively of me because of some misconception especially if it's that i would be the kind of person to try to shit on other people's tastes, try to appear smart or to "stealthily" try some shit. considering i've been shitposting here for around 10 years. there are plenty of actual things wrong with me that you can dislike me for.

and yeah yeah go ahead and point out the irony of how going on about this has made people dislike me when they were indifferent before. i could almost feel all the undiscovered bridges collapsing when i made those posts. and if for some godforsaken reason this incident gets referenced down the road it's going to be "hey remember when kate just flipped the fuck out over guardians 2? why would someone get so mad over a movie" like the movie was the actual issue.

I GET IT. I get that people think it's dumb and that i'm simply mentally unhinged or whatever else. but i DO CARE. i do care about not being misrepresented and i do care about judgments on my character when i don't agree with them.

i don't NEED to be liked clearly. i just want a part of who i am to be understood rather than simply written off as some raving lunatic because that's just easier. of course i can't force people to understand or care. but i'm attempting explanations here because i do.
