The Minecraft spotlight made me realize I forgot to account for the possibility of anti votes

people going "oh, Minecraft is everything that's wrong with modern gaming, I'm going to vote for 1979 even though I've probably never actually played these games"

I guess anti-voting is possible, but are you going to anti-vote 2009 based on Minecraft with Uncharted, SF, and Batman in there if you like some of those games, too?

I'm interested to see what happens when we get to user created stuff. There's still a possibility of consoles being integrated later on.

But I damn sure wouldn't count on it in the first two rounds.

Sounds like it. Allen did not upload match pictures for 1981/2006 or 1978/2005.

My original guess was 2 matches per day, but then I considered the possibility of 4 matches per day later on.

let's talk about what each year's "item" is

85 is a mushroom, 87 is a master sword. that's the GOAT pic right there.

90 might be a leaf. 00 is.. a mask? edge 1990

03 is probably the WW conductor thing. 13 maybe something from Last of Us?

If an upset in the wildcard round is going to happen, 83 > 89 is it. I really wish 1981 had a better matchup, since it's almost surely stronger than 1983 (Donkey Kong + Galaga + Ms. Pac-Man is a pretty good trio), but 89 looks weak especially without Mega Man.

Guardian Legend is a hybrid shmup/top down action game (think Zelda). kinda like Blaster Master? but much better

I'm sticking with my guns on 1989 but the match pics managed to make that matchup as interesting as possible

that's what I was calling for pre-contest - and doesn't sway my 1989 pick in the slightest. no MM2 is a fun wrinkle though (I think I theorized that one too, I forget)

The code at the bottom of that file is very interesting. Sounds like the large match pictures will be animated in some form (the pictures will rotate or cycle around).

The fact that we have such large match pictures is now explained by the JavaScript code I discovered earlier.
