It's damaging to my sanity to read shit like this. He says unsourced nonsense (that Jackson had an opinion regarding a war he was long dead for), says something idiotic to follow it up (that people don't question why he Civil War happened and implies there aren't plenty of well-sourced answers), and then turns it into a discussion of how he just absolutely killed it in his election. HOW IS HE STILL OBSESSED WITH ELECTION STATS! Even the people that revile him and his presidency don't care about that shit anymore. Who is he trying to convince?

You didn't even read the article, did you? If so, you grossly misinterpreted it. Also, the civil war did not start because of slavery. Southern states wanted to break away from the union. Lincoln didn't even sign the emancipation proclamation until the war was well underway.

It was more we don't want to pay taxes for your war. The war didn't benefit the American colonies yet they were expected to pay for it because it was in their region. So prices skyrocketed with no new land, resources or revenue to aid it. Ironically the same reason was for the French revolution when they were taxed heavily for aiding in the American revolution.

As for the civil war many factors in play but I believe a starting point was the Dred Scott decision. In it the supreme court ruled a man with african american blood in them can never be a citizen. That action outraged the North and they used their position of power in congress to enforce new rules on the south including freeing the slaves. This act of aggressive power led to the south attempting to secede. I say attempt because it was never formally recognized by any power. So in essence the actual cause of the war was to stop the south from seceding.

Unfortunately for the South since they were never recognized congress still held session as normal and many laws and regulations were passed that were detrimental to the south because all southern lawmakers were absent from voting. One of the bigger one coming to mind is the transcontinental railroad. It was a hot ticket item cause of the business it would produce and where to build it was highly argued by the north and the south.

Trump is an idiot.

Everyone knows the Civil War happened because Captain America wouldn't agree to the terms laid out in the Sokovia Accords.

You must've missed the part where the Union had virtually no interest in freeing Southern slaves. They just didn't want to cut the growing nation in half and be neighbors with another potential enemy.

But Hypo is right. You misunderstood the article, yet again. Trump wasn't saying he didn't know the reasons behind the war. He was saying he didn't understand why that shit couldn't have been worked out without it turning into war.
