Well if Andrew Jackson had been president instead of Lincoln due to some time machine or something that caused him to be alive in 1860, there would not have been a civil war then because he was a slave guy.

There still probably would have been. While he was president South Carolina was thinking of seceding over what they viewed as unfair tariffs. They drafted a bill to nullified their engagement with the union and in the course of two days Jackson gathered the army and was prepared to go to war with him already getting congress approval. South Carolina seeing that veto the bill and renegotiated with congress about their problems.

While matters were resolved peacefully that time Andrew Jackson knew they would flair up again. Here's what he wrote in a letter at the time apologies for the language "the tariff was only a pretext, and disunion and southern confederacy the real object. The next pretext will be the black (he didn't use the word black), or slavery question."

While he had the foresight of the problem he saw no other solution then brute force or war.

Most people don't. They tend to think it had to do with slavery.

That's because it was.

WRONG!!! It was fought to stop the vampires from taking over American.

When you know nothing about the civil war you think it's about slavery.
When you know a little bit about the civil war you think it's about states rights.
When you know a lot about the civil war you realize it was about states rights to own slaves.

Seriously, y'all need Shelby Foote.

As someone who didn't want him as President, watching you desperately be unable to come to terms with it is pretty amusing.

The Revolutionary War was fought because we wanted our independence from Britain. Our ancestors came here because of freedom of religion.

The Civil War was fought because of slavery. I'm not interested in any alt right revisionist history you might try and spread.

You must've missed the part where the Union had virtually no interest in freeing Southern slaves. They just didn't want to cut the growing nation in half and be neighbors with another potential enemy.

The Revolutionary War was fought because we wanted our independence from Britain. Our ancestors came here because of freedom of religion.

And yet, hostilities only escalated over taxes.

IE no taxation without representation.

Chill out, man. This is what happens when people spend too much time in front of a screen.

Oh, you mean like the guy in the big white house that can't be bothered to pay too much attention to briefings because he's watching Fox News and CNN.

Where's Zeus at? Can't wait to see him defend this shit also.

Honestly, everything has already been said. Clearly there were other solutions which wouldn't have ended in the bloodiest war in US history including, among other things, just letting the states secede and govern themselves as they saw fit. Of course, that would derailed the American war machine and set back the cause of American imperialism but, given that two Americas would likely have close ties anyway, the big wars would have ended the same eventually.

The slavery claim is a gross over-simplication taught to grade-schoolers because they can't grasp complexity and have limited reasoning ability. Unsurprisingly, adults with limited comprehension also gravitate towards simpler answers. However, reality tends to resist simplicity. While the issue of abolition was one of the most prominent grievances, it was emblematic of greater issues including a growing cultural divide, taxation, resentment towards an increasingly powerful centralized government, socio-economic schisms, etc.
