Always checks to make sure nobody is downwind
At the very least febreezes their whole house/car before having company
Disposes of butts properly instead of littering
Doesn't light up on the way from the restaurant to the car and make everyone wait

And I think that about covers it.

Courteous non smokers are those that...

Don't choose to infringe on other people

Don't walk by and make fake coughing sounds like some punk ass passive aggressive bitch.

Don't complain after they walk over to a smoker already is.

Don't complain about smoking at a bar, bowling alley or pool hall.

Doesn't be an all around bitch.

In my opinion, the heavy scent of febreeze would be 1000x worse. It also depends on what they smoke, cigarettes do put off a strong odor but cigars aren't even half as bad smelling. Either would bother me less than them spraying everything in a thick coating of air freshener. Also, their car/house, their rules.
A lot of people would just smoke in the car on the way back, again their choice, if you know they smoke and are gonna want a smoke break before leaving, and that would bother you, why come? What if the smoker paid for the whole meal? What if they drove?
Also, think of the people who treat people who smoke like shit, over something that's really none of their damn business. The only time I tell a smoker something about their habit, is when they lecture me about mine. Pick your battles

lol, imagine being this pathetic. glad I'm not friends with any smokers.

Makes me think of those smokers who have to go out for their smoke break, even when it's 0-degrees, or pouring down rain, and you see them huddled against a building somewhere because their fix is more important to them than their dignity. Just embarrassing.

Someone smoking outside a bar doesn't infringe on anyone. Someone smoking in their home doesn't infringe on anyone. Someone smoking in a car doesn't infringe on anyone.

Passing laws that ban something in the city infringes on people.

Passing sin taxes infringes on people.

Telling a business owner they can't allow something infringes on people.

The only people that should be protected are kids. If you're an adult you can choose not to be there.

The process of consuming alcohol (and some drugs) has no inherent dangers to anyone but the user. The negative effects are limited to the user and the product itself has no release. My beer doesn't put off noxious, dangerous fumes and me getting drunk doesn't harm anyone else. If someone does acid, the tab doesn't put chemicals into the air. Smoking anything (especially cigarettes) releases noxious, dangerous fumes into the air that coats the smoker and surroundings. That coating still has active poison that can irritate and harm someone as well as pass onto other surfaces, especially cloth ones.

Smoking is really in a league of its own as far as vices go because it's physically not possible to limit of all of its effect to the user. I'm not saying this as a means to promote impositions on smokers because I really don't care about it outside of my personal relationships and my office (which is thankfully smoke free) but acting like it's the same as any other vice reeks of delusion, especially coming from smokers who typically will do anything they can to fool themselves that it's not a nuisance to anyone but themselves on account of their addiction.

Bowling alleys I tend to mean at night and I definitely mean outside of these places. During the day bowling alleys tend to be filled with kids but after 10 it becomes more of an adult drinking hang out and tends to have a lot of smokers outside.

I don't smoke but I used to and it just always bugs me when people act like a smoker should have to walk until they can't see anyone before smoking. If they start first and they're not by a door I don't think you have any reason to complain because you can walk around. Hell if they are outside the door the half a second for you to walk by isn't going to hurt you.

The fake coughing still bugs me and I love calling it out when someone walks by a smoker and starts coughing.

This is why I like my city's smoking ban. I used to have to drive 45 minutes if I wanted to shoot pool without a stuffy cloud of stinky smoke suffocating me. No more entitled smokers dictating where I have to go to avoid their filthy habit. Now I'm five minutes away from a variety of options but I still go to the one 45 minutes away because all my oldest buddies are there.

I think that tobacco is probably a bigger public health issue than alcohol in isolation, but in practice obviously alcohol is way worse because tobacco doesn't impair your ability to drive

I actually think smoking bans are pretty funny. Never seem to change anything or be enforced other than you'll randomly here about a guy who got a tiny ticket once.

First off I was talking about outside. I'm not a fan of smoking indoors but that should still be the businesses choice.

If you didn't like the smoking in the pool hall why didn't you go to the local bakery and make them become a pool hall since you seem to be so entitled that you think you should get to dictate how private businesses operate.

Not... really.

Regardless, it's just something I want to figure out; the western world has all but eliminated smoking, but continues alcohol, compared to the middle east, which bans alcohol, but fully embraces smoking. I wish there was a case study about it (I myself was going to do one in college but data was... not easily accessible) and the weird opposite nature of the 2.

My comparison is don't tell a business owner how to run their business. I don't like smoking in doors much. I'd probably find a different pool hall. The owner would either decide smoking is good for his business or bad but the government shouldn't tell him what he has to do.
