When I was in Monaco, I bought a $17 bottle of water (Evian). Granted, it was brought to me on a literal silver platter by a waiter in full tuxedo with white gloves.
I have made a lot of douchey purchases in my life, but that was probably my most "let them eat cake"-type moment.

Every now and again I'll buy a second (or third) copy of something I already own just because I find it on sale crazy cheap. Plus there's a lot of stuff that I've bought which I never used. In general, I buy a lot of ridiculous things. Services I don't always spring on because, meh.

Probably my pool table. I mean, I use it quite a bit, but it is a $3000 piece of furniture that I will probably have to get rid of if I ever get married. Plus it takes up my entire family room with no room for anything else.

I wouldn't say I "purchased" this-- when I was in my last year of college, I turned in my parking lot fee waiver and they somehow lost it.

Waged a semester-long war against the parking lot management staff, who claimed I was just another student who forgot to turn in the waiver and was trying to make it look like it was their fault to avoid the fee.

I lost the war, as expected, even though I had turned in my waiver. The fact that they automatically charge everyone UNLESS you turn in the waiver is a bunch of bullshit in the first place, but hooray for education being an industry!

When I graduated, I went back to the parking lot manager and told her I wished her all the best working as a low-life parasitic desk receptionist who knowingly screws students for a living. (Pretty much the politically correct version of telling her to go to hell.)

I might be coming off as an inconsiderate asshole in this post, but I was nothing but polite to those guys for over half the semester. I was kind, understood they were trying to maintain the integrity of their positions, but they refused to consider my perspective too, so fuck em. I wanted them to know that.

A cat. Dropped about $135 on the adoption fee, toys, food, litter, all that stuff.

Got rid of it after 4 days. Gave it and all the supplies to a friend who wanted one for free.

Lesson learned. If I had a bigger apartment I would have probably kept it because it was a nice cat.

$20 fee for doing a state tax return that I got nothing back from.

Built a notebook in 2005 for about $4K. It was amazing. Later in life the screen developed heat lines. Now it's a disassembled paperweight with some parts that aren't entirely antiquated in various other states of repurpose.

Easily years of insurance I never used.
