I used to be one of those "only classic rock is good" dorks. Those people are pretty common on the internet, but I feel like seemingly everyone I knew in middle/high school loved pop punk No other option because every middle/high schooler in existence prefers one of those five genres. I got into classic rock after country, I have no idea what ska or nu metal actually are, I dislike rap and have no feelings towards punk as a genre. I grown up listening to the radio that played mostly pop, rap and R&B however we did get the odd Nu Metal song from the likes of Linkin Park and other bands. I enjoyed many songs from those genres but it wasn't until I left school and went on a media course that I met a guy who happened to have a copy of The Subliminal Verses album by Slipknot. I know of Slipknot as they had the odd song that played on the radio and the goths back at school loved them(something I ironically thought was a bad thing). I decided to borrow the album from the guy, loved it and expanded my horizons by listening to more Nu Metal bands/artists.
