it was pointed out how CNN for instance is guilty of it's own made up stories, mic cuttings and extreme bias
for instance they have many times set their top story as breaking based on nothing but unsubstantiated tabloid rumors

Trump ran with that and called them fake news on the national stage and it stuck (he looked like a total idiot while doing so, but so did CNN)

then even to now the mainstream media is blasted for taking things out of context
for instance PewDiePie having a hit job on him by the wallstreet journal being accused of white supremacy that any regular person can see is a total lie (but ofc hardcore sjw truly believe he is now lmao)

It would have been a good thing to point out, but like most things the liberal media gets their paws on, there were ulterior motives. It wasn't just about "true fake news". They were using it as a guise to lump conservative media they didn't agree with into the pile.

Ads were being played on things that most companies don't want their video being associated with, which is fair. My biggest issue with it is the imbalance of power.

If you look at the people on the Far Left and the Far Right, it's not equal. Democrats are closer to the center than Republicans.
Bernie Sanders is probably the furthest Left politician who has some degree of power. He's also arguably the most popular politician in the USA right now, but look how that worked out for him.
Meanwhile, if you look at the far Right members of the Republican party, and there's a ton, along with the many members of the Tea Party and the Alt-right. Let's not forget people like Bannon having some level of influence over the POTUS, if not the man himself.

Now compare the media. What's the furthest Left organization that actually has some level of power? The Young Turks? Most people on the street probably haven't even heard of them.
Meanwhile people like Alex Jones and organizations like Breitbart are very popular among the Right.

It's just awful.

Let me clarify:
Liberals are the ones who think that giving people with shitty ideas a platform will cause them to destroy themselves (which, by the way, has been completely disproven by the US election). They want people like Milo Yiannopoulos speaking at schools even though there's a spike in hate crime against marginalized​ groups whenever he does. They frequently conflate freedom of speech with the right to a platform.

Leftists are the ones with the radical idea that giving shitty people a platform could persuade more people to adopt that point of view and embolden them (for example, the huge spike in hate crime after Trump's election).

Preventing someone from speaking at a university is not an infringement on their free speech, no matter what Liberals and Conservatives think

Agreed. The problem with discourse lately is that at least one side will do nothing to actually listen to the other side. They'll either write them off or completely ignore what was said in order to continue the narrative. This engenders a lack of faith in the discussion, which causes the other side to then sink to the same tactics, ultimately destroying healthy political dialogue.
