Alabama Senate has now approved NITROGEN GAS as a way to EXECUTE their inmates..even though it has so far not been used across the country..

However, under the new bill passed by a 25-8 vote in the Senate, it is now included in their methods of execution, along with the electric chair.

Robert Dunham of the Death Penalty Information Centre said "No state has carried out an execution using nitrogen hypoxia"..although Mississippi and Oklahoma also have that option but have not used it.

Republicans tried to pass a FIRING SQUAD as their option but it was shot down (no pun intended)

The pace of executions has slowed in Alabama because of the ongoing legal challenges to lethal injection methods.

Trip Pittman said they need ANOTHER method of killing people because of lethal injection not being as viable as it used to be..he tried to sponsor a firing squad but it was changed in the committee.

He said "It's important to have another option. I think nitrogen hypoxia is a very humane way to implement and to execute our people".

Dying by this method would seal the doomed inmate in an airtight chamber where the nitrogen gas is pumped causing death by lack of oxygen. It is invisible, tasteless and odourless gas that has 80% of the air we breath but is lethal in concentrated doses.

Many people have died from this every year and it is regularly used in ANIMAL EUTHANSIA..

What I don't understand is why people want murderers to live. If you murder somebody, your own life is forfeit as punishment.

Adding nitrogen to the list isn't taking away man hours from health and education, and if anything, the money saved on death row delaying tactics could go toward healthcare and education.

Difference of opinion (I am pro-capital punishment mind you). I personally think that capital punishment should only be reserved for those whom we have absolute evidence for who have committed some of the worst crimes (IE: Murder or rape), anything short of that, give them hard labor, we have no reason to make them comfortable, and if we can at least make them productive members of society while they are incarcerated, it would work even better (Perhaps place the prisons in the middle of nowhere and have them work a farm for their own food among other things, still provide them the necessary nutrients, but if they want anything nice, have them work for it.)

Basically, death is the easy way out and should only be used for the worst of the worst in my opinion.

Well, I still think public hangings are the way to go, so...

You can survive a head shot in brutal ways, falling asleep and never waking up is much more pleasant.

I think we should put hella sleeping pills in their last meal and then when they pass out we just kill them swiftly in their sleep.

it was only until a couple decades we started using DNA in evidence

so that kind of arguement is reeeeeeallly kind of insensitive to people who may not be guilty (or not want to die)

Pretty much why embargoes are completely ineffective for stopping the death penalty. You really need to get the general population so against it that politicians outlaw it.
